Server 6 Feedback Thread

Recommended Posts

Since Bamf wants server 6 to continue the glory it had when it came out i thought why not give it a shot.

This thread is to discuss our dislikes about the server. Please bring good critism and possible solutions or ideas. With the right feedback the devs and kbw might be able to make the server we love most.

For me server 6 really sounded fun but my potato computer couldn't take it. Perhaps this is a problem for more people?

There's also been complains about the server not sharing your character progression with the altis servers. I personally think it's a good thing but please explain more about why you would want that.

Also the reason we got a modded server was because it was easy to set up with the launcher.

In my experience i was busy just as long or even longer than with the traditional way. This might scare off new people to try.

I think that if everyone sat down and really thought about what is adding value to the server 6 experience and decided to trim the fat, it could easily be successful.

Obviously everyone is going to feel differently but in the scope of my relatively limited observations, people really enjoy the weapons, the vehicle variety (but not handling on current map), most seem to enjoy the fresh start (though certainly not everyone), and most people enjoy the change of scenery. Though they don't like the specific map.

If you took those long sought-after modded elements over to a map that was free of Australia's performance woes, boring aesthetic similarity to Altis, and impractically large size, I think it would be very popular. Australia just comes with too many obstacles. It is too large. Even if this issue is mitigated by careful placement of key locations, the sheer amount of dead space is insane. It looks too much like Altis to really add much in the way of variety to the Asylum experience, other than urban environments and memory leaks. Additionally, modded vehicles handle extremely poorly on this map which only serves to make driving 30km to the nearest town more frustrating.

Initially Australia seemed like an original and refreshing map choice and the Dev team did a great job trying to make it a success. But the innate drawbacks of the Australia terrain are just too great and no amount of painstaking reworking is likely to change that.

I personally believe that a transition to a more stable map, preferably with a markedly different climate from Altis, would immediately revitalize server six. There are a number of gameplay improvements that I would like to see, but all of them are trivial in comparison. Balance adjustments, refinement of faction weaponry selections/accouterments, and fiscal incentives for varied gameplay styles will ultimately prove inconsequential if the map issues aren't resolved.

TL;DR: While initially promising, the Australia terrain is holding server 6 back. In my opinion, the fastest way to get six back on track is changing the map. Otherwise all development efforts are just band-aids on bullet holes.

^Agreed

But then comes the next big discussion...who wants to put in MORE work on a different map? (Because it would have to be completely re-done)

I personally thought the Australia map was going to be a huge bust from the beginning. With the map size being that ridiculously monstrous, the developer must have thought Arma was going to be able to house 500-1000 players someday. Even trying to congest everything to one side of the map, completely takes away from the map as a whole and looks foolish. The map layout and design was clearly rushed and not much thought was used when placing things, which caused a lot of head-aches from the community. If the map was scaled down to half its size or even a quarter of its size, it would be a great map (as long as the mem-leak issues were resolved).

Asylum's best shot at making a modded server is with Altis itself.

Add new vehicles, weapons and facilities but change it to Altis that we have all grown to love.

Stop wasting time with that shitty map, get some determined people on board to make a modded version of Asylum's version of Altis.

For example, more weapons and vehicles can improve the facilities.

Keep prison where it is but expand on it, since there will be new and improved vehicles/weapons it should be bigger and harder. Cities should be bigger, improve the cartels and outposts.

Do these things and S6 will be something special.

I dont wanna seem like im advertising or anything but if you guys are having issues with your PC here is a really good video on how to increase your FPS

My PC Specs

i7 920 OC 4.2 Ghz, GTX 950 2gb Vram, 16gb ddr3 1333Mhz, and Asus Rampage Gene II motherboard

yeah my PC is relatively old but I get on average 40-60 FPS on Altis unless I experience server lag or fly a Heli with textures to high and Object distance render to high, then it drops to 15-20 fps but for the most part, I stay pretty consistent around 35-50 fps on High settings with 2k visible distance.

Btw from other servers similar to Asylum I have notice that they all have unique things but they are all not as fun as Asylum and get way more people.

PROs

Custom Paint & Better Cars

Custom Car sounds and Sirens

Custom Clothes

Custom Gestures - 1 I saw was a guy doing pushups and dancing

Intro video into the server as a new character, maybe this could be utilized in a similar way with cinematics and a brief overview of the game or like acted out scenario.

Outro - The screen zooms out into space then you go to the lobby

Some had Bus Stops, Plane Travel, and Boat Travel

Some had simulated events that changed like Road work, Construction and so on.

Military Camps and Outposts

Safe Zones

WayPoint indicator

Maps are not as cluttered

Connect to Teamspeak through the game or visit their site

Furnished Designs, Some designs were cleverly placed like a Vehicle on top of a Car Lot

Gambling Casinos, Blackjack, Dice

More Startup Cash

Random NPC's instead of the simple Signs that are broken 60% of the time

CONs

Not English

Not Asylum

Not as much offered job wise

Really long respawn times

Poor Designs for the most part

Could be bad I guess but everything is open and not whitelisted Cops, EMT, CIvs

These are only suggestions I noticed from other servers, I like Asylum but I hate all the RDMing and VDMing. I have been curious why some other servers that are not US based retain on average 90-150 active users, I do realize that Asylum gets roughly that many or more all the time but the main thing I notice is that people play on the most active server whether it be Server 1-4 I did not even know there was a 5 or 6 until I got on here because I found this server through the open server list on Arma 3 the same as many other people I presume. I do know that the lack of active staff and in some cases mods hurt this community because I have seen a bunch of posts about people wanting new stuff and new maps and a new experience but keep all their old stuff.

@Starance @Gnashes @Snatch Clean up the advertisement above please :(

How exactly is it advertising? I was only trying to be helpful in any way possible because Yes when you join certain servers you actually gain a welcoming feel and you are aesthetically pleased by the way they present themselves. I think if Asylum borrowed and made their concepts better then they could not compete because they only have 1 or 2 servers compared to Asylum having 4 active servers. I'm not trying to be rude but I think it is absurd when you're trying to help and people like you diminish all player thought that could be beneficial. I have nothing further to say other than Toxic players are a thorn in this communities backbone.
