How do i do plates in prison

i have not found any guides and i want to get out of jail quicker anyone know how to?

In order to create plates. Please search/collect metal around the prison grounds in the trash and use the machine in the main building to craft plates.

What does the metal look like? Where can I find it within the grounds? I've looked a lot and have never seen any "metal." Thanks!

edit: found it, it's the bins right behind the big machine in the main room.
