Server 3 running our new performance patch

31 posts in this topic

Everyone-

Server 3 is running the new performance patch we've been working on.  There will be some minor bugs here or there, so please let us know if something isn't working quite right.  We think we've gotten all the major things tested though, so we want to get as many people on S3 as we can in order to see how performance is impacted.

Thanks,

Bamf

@bamf Just wondering - why isn't this performance patch being tested on server 4 instead, the server which I believe most likely has the most issues of all the servers?

Likely because server #1 and #4 are the ones always getting DDoSed. Doing testing on those while someone keeps trying to take it down would result in confusion. (Kicks wouldn't be related to the performance patch, some people not able to connect while the volumetric protection is active, etc.)

But then someone could just DDoS server #3 instead...

Aren't strong filters put in on those two aforementioned servers to prevent those attacks?

Server #3 has only been attacked once in the past 20 days. Server #1 and #4 have exceeded 40 attacks in the past 20 days.

There's no such thing as a strong filter, no mitigation is going to catch every attack. The attacks that have been causing issues for #1 and #4 are small (500Mbps-1000Mbps) application layer attacks. (Targeting the arma3server process itself rather than trying to saturate the server's NIC.)

Can we get the quotes removed from around side chat?

Arma apparently chooses to ignore the bool param that would change that, so no for the time being
