10 Minutes Restrained Rule

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

This is a suggestion to help enforce RP and create a more enjoyable experience for everybody. As everybody in Asylum should attest to, we all enjoy fast paced RP and want to have a good time, however there's some things that will hinder that experience. My suggestion is to create a rule that will prevent people from intentionally restraining someone and leaving the individual in an area where no RP is to be had. Here's an example of this situation.

>Bob doesn't like Joe.

>Bob initiates on Joe and restrains Joe.

>Bob escorts Joe to a locked house or unreachable area and leaves.

>Joe is forced to wait 10 minutes in silence for his hand cuffs to break.

Situations similar to these, there's 0 RP or fun to be had by both parties. It's just a shitty way to get rid of somebody for 10 minutes so you don't have to deal with that person. Here would be a more optimal situation.

>Bob doesn't like Joe.

>Bob initiates on Joe and restrains Joe.

>Bob escorts Joe to a locked.

>Bob tortures Joe and makes him rehearse the My Little Pony theme song.

>Bob becomes bored with Joe, puts him in a vehicle, and drives him out in to the middle of nowhere so he can't come back to get revenge.

>Joe is unrestrained and forced to hitch hike

In this situation, there's player interaction and a method of getting rid of the person so he can't come back to get you. I get sometimes people are being trolls and the only means of dealing with them are locking them in a house, but dumping them out in the middle of nowhere is a much better option for both parties. Sure them respawning is something that could happen, and they'll lose all of their gear, but at least you can sleep at night knowing you're not a complete scum bag. ;)

In other instances, the kidnapper could be killed and the restrained player may be stuck inside a house or a general fire fight may ensue, but that's completely out of the kidnapper's control. At least he's there instead of intentionally leaving the guy alone.

Please let me know what you guys think of this suggestion!

Someone locks me in a house and leaves Imma alt+f4 sorry. It may be light RP, but there is still RP in there.

I am 100% right behind you about alt+f4 however whenever there is any discussion about enforcing rp civ side this is the generic reply that is given.

And as a medic lol I have little choice in this matter, in fact I don't mind it I build a good relationship with co-captures to the point if not they get bored of kidnapping me. And I think Church is bugged in Kavala someone was cuffed for 45 min lol poor kid yes we kept telling him to log out but was to afraid to log out blah blah.

If the initiation or hostile time is 5 minutes, maybe the cuffs breaking should be the same

That's a good idea, but you have to consider bounty hunters. It sometimes may take them a little more time to get to an area to turn in their bounty, unless there'd be a way to extend the hand cuff time from 5 minutes to 10 if that person is their bounty.

I don't think enforcing RP for this is needed, but I do think reform is in order. Zip-ties are for taking bounties or kidnapping for RP otherwise. Its become somewhat of a plague that people restrain and lock someone in a house with no goal in mind other than to make them stuck for 10 minutes. Whether it's because they don't like the person or they just get off at the thought of trolling either way, it should change. Its not healthy for the server when any new players come in and within five minutes are locked restrained alone in a house. That doesn't make new players want to come back. And for existing players, there are some where it's become harassment that some of these people WILL go out of their way to lock you up any chance they see you.

Telling someone when they complain about it to "just stay away" or "leave kavala" isn't the proper answer. I find it somewhat hypocritical for admins to have a post about needing toxicity and harassment to be dialed back because it's getting out of hand, but when a player confronts those responsible for enforcing it we're just told "just leave." Because people will do just that. They aren't going to "just leave kavala." They're going to think twice about logging in because they know they're going to get harassed with no repercussion to those doing it.

Being downed just to be locked in a house for 10 minutes isn't fun for the captive, and accomplishes nothing for the captor. @Mitch (IFRIT)

I completely agree it especially sucks when you have logged into Kavala with a full gear set just to be downed and restrained, last time that happened I turned my pc off and went back to bed lol

Yup. Just today around 4 I was going to go run DP in my heli and this BH downed a medic for jokingly threatening him, but instead of being an adult and letting him be after that he continued to down the medic for 10 minutes, and I told him he should just let him go, he can't do anything, so he downed me too and had me up for 10 minutes. Not only does it suck that its not against the rules, but the cops were 30m from us and wouldn't respond or take action. Its clearly abuse of BH charge, discharging in city, kidnapping, etc, but cops don't care anymore. I had work at 5 and because I had to deal with this guy my time was wasted enough I just left to go to work. Makes me think twice before logging in again sometimes.

You're either grinding, getting downed and locked up for 10 minutes, or are the trolls doing the downing.

Ppl that do what you do have started this entire problem and now act as if it’s a normality to just leave someone restrained when yo are done with them
