    What is role play?
    Role-playing is the changing of one's behaviour to assume a role, either unconsciously to fill a social role, or consciously to act out an adopted role.
    So what's your point?
    Over time, the role play quality of on-duty officers has gone down.
    The APD
    The APD is the backbone of role play on Asylum's Altis Life. All officers on duty (and preferably off duty) are expected to uphold a higher level of quality in how they act while playing on Asylum. The blufor faction (Cop, APD) is whitelisted, which means it is a privilege and not a right to be able to play on it.
    Somewhere down the line, role play made its way to the back seat and became more about making money and shooting guns. While that's all good and fun, role play while on duty needs to be at the forefront at all times.
    The APD is not a gang. Good aim and combat awareness is definitely a plus, but is never required and is never put above your ability to talk to people.
    The issues
    There are lots of issues that have crept up over time, including but not limited to:
    Full, or near full tickets for well thought out role play (explaining charges, etc) Poor treatment of civilians who put effort into their character Shooting before talking (APD hands up... bang bang bang) Bleeping sirens to initiate and shoot as soon as possible While technically these aren't necessarily against any APD policy (barring severe circumstances), they are definitely frowned upon.
    The solution(s)
    There's no easy solution.
    To start off, and effective immediately, any lack of role play or failure to role play will be dealt with harshly by our APD staff. This will require everyone's help to report this behaviour. We need video evidence. We cannot act based off of word of mouth.
    If you are unable to talk to people respectfully with no bias, the APD is not for you. This goes for all ranks.
    Civilian role play
    Asylum is a light role play server. Civilians are not required to role play, but when civilians do role play, or put effort into it, they should be rewarded. If role play is rewarded, they will be more likely to put more effort into it again in the future.
    If the cops do not role play, there is a chain reaction that happens.
    Civilian gets into a situation with an APD officer Civilian attempts to role play APD officer is a generic brick wall (issues full, or close to full ticket, or is almost like a robot) Civilian sees that the effort he/she put in didn't pay off Civilian sees no point in role playing in the future Next APD officer interaction, the civilian isn't role playing because role playing doesn't pay off Even if a civilian is not role playing, there is no excuse in not trying to get something out of the civilian.

    We're currently working around the clock on it basically. We'll see where we're at tomorrow. We wipe a few things off the list and several more pop up. Nearly all server code has been re-written for current stuff in. Also, a lot has changed clientside code wise to improve readability, functionality, and making stuff more scale-able.
    However, we are in my opinion about 24hrs - 36hrs behind where I expected to be. Not necessarily that many development hours, just a day and a half behind schedule. Which is pretty good considering I gave the week almost a month ago. It does look like we may need to push it to release next mid-week (Which if we do that, we'll release with the contact stuff and such at the same time). However, we could do it Saturday. Really depends how our testing continues and what we realize we're forgetting and what is missing as we go. I also work Sat-Mon, so I'd really rather not release it then leave for work in the event issues crop up while I'm working, I wouldn't be able to do anything.

    You can see below we literally have timestamps at all times of day... 3AM, 4AM, 12PM, 1PM, etc...

    Can it also be fixed you NEED an illegal firearm and rebel license to contest a cartel other than a SDAR? I’ve seen BHs and pistol bangers contest a cartel I’m capping because they have a gun. They can’t capture it themselves, but they can prevent me from continuing my capture

    Collecting salt water is sooo pointless no clue what the use is in it.
     
    Evidence locker could be improved if rare vehicles or expensive vehicles spawned from it E:G 50 cal, armed quilin, ifrit.

    Weapon prices need tweaked considerably.
    for example:  you can spend 6-7k on a PDW at fun store, or go to rebel and get an Katiba, Spar16, AKM or AK12 close to that price.  Or, at rebel, you have MK1s (none on market) at around 12k and P90s at 14k??? 
    I think all guns should have a set price. (Of course still hold the turf ownership discount for rebel weapons)

    The “map” aspect of the cartel doesn’t need changed (Less than 2% of oil cartel caps will be defended).  But switching it back to generating Rubber would be spectacular.
     
    -Get rid of all alcohol manufacturing except Scotch.  No one does the other alcohols.
    Dynamic Market definitely needs tweaked, if not removed.
    Remove the police checkpoint gates, they’re pointless.
    Add crank vans!!!
    DS has yet to do an evidence locker robbery (we usually lack the numbers).  So we’re just clueless when it comes to that, which may be why it hasn’t been robbed so much... people just don’t know what’s involved, maybe??

    What are some things or features to something that you feel are just pointless or really make you go why is this in the game? Looking to bring some of the stuff you guys feel are pointless, etc to the staff meetings to find out if we can remake them to be pointful or adjust to be better and more popular.

    Please keep this thread clean... We're trying to improve the game/community.. not get mod queued or fight each other.

    Evening all,
    I wanted to give a slight update to the new mission related stuff. I unfortunately got hit with having to work 3 weeks of 66hrs /ea week at work (Starting this week). This has pushed back my estimated done date pretty hard. I took off two days of work (Jul 14/15) to make a longer week and prevent being forced to do overtime that week. 

    The "Official Release Week" will be the week of July 14 - 20. The date is not set in stone yet. However, that will 99% for sure be the week we release on. This will allow us to get in 2 more staff meetings before releasing and also to finish up related projects required to release such as our new web based admin/moderator controls. As far as progress goes on the mission I'm happy where we're at and confident we can reach the goal set. As long as my house doesn't burn down or something in the meantime. I just want to be sure we have a good release and that we have enough time to do the things we want to get done.
    If you guys have any questions or anything feel free to drop them below.

    Hello everyone! Josh Boon AKA  @Boon and I have been working on a little something for the Asylum Community.  its a money making/crafting calculator that you can use via google chrome. Keep in mind josh and I are in no way a professional at java-script or programming we did this in our spare time so expect bugs! just tell us about them if you find them thx.
    How To Install.

    After Installing an Icon will appear in your extensions toolbar looking like this :  Click on said icon and a new tab will appear bringing you to the home page you can select which calculator you want by selecting the menu bar at the top. (drug, liquor etc.) fill out the information with the drop downs then hit calculate. Selling Count and Custom space are not needed they can be left blank. tada! it worked! Bugs.

    DISCLAIMER!
    this calculator should be accurate to the nearest $10,000.
    there is an issue with the guns crafting that i may need to point out that well try and fix later.  lets say you take 8 opium and 2 iron to craft a katiba. when crafting with tier 4 rewards you receive 2 opium back after crafting. the calculator does not take this into account when calculating inventory space, the amount of guns you can craft, or money wise. so those may be off by a slight amount.

    In my opinion Malden it's almost a perfect "life map".
    First of all it has nice landscapes. It looks cool and natural. It has a little bit of everything, excepting the fact that it's a medium-sized map. Second, it has great housing. I think this will be one of the best maps for roleplay after Altis, of course.
    Tanoa isn't for everyone. It has a lot of lag and useless foliage, even if it has great towns wich are perfect for roleplay.
    Stratis it's to small and without structures, houses, or cityes. Imo Stratis it's not a map for roleplay, it's for Wasteland, KOTH, and lots of firefights.

    Cool patch, though I am sad to see parole go.  Sometimes it was nice to just afk in-game the morning after racking up a big bounty while getting stuff done around the house/running errands.

    In order to properly initiate hostile RP you must supply people with a demand and then a threat. A threat can be inferred but it is recommended to include one in your message. 
    Good
    If they refuse the order within a reasonable amount of time (3-5 seconds) or show hostility back then you are free to act on your threat.
    Bad
    If they refuse any of these orders and you shoot them that would probably be considered RDM (Hostile intent can be inferred if the outcome of refusing is obvious)

    Misconceptions
     
    Only initiate through your phone or voice. Dispatch/911 or Side are NOT acceptable ways to initiate!
    Some situations have RP/context, in grey area moments use common sense.

    This is a re-post of the rule change regarding RP from August 2015:
    After a long discussion, we have decided to change the rules around a few role play (RP) scenarios.  
    First, it is no longer acceptable to send someone a text message telling them they are going to die and then killing them immediately (or shortly thereafter).  Things like “you will die” followed by someone being killed will be a bannable offence going forward.  
     
    Second, when you do initiate hostile role play with someone you must give them sufficient time to react.  For example:  
     
    “Hands up or die” is perfectly fine - provided you give the person ample time to respond, give them time to put their hands up, run, or to begin dialogue with you.  If they fail to comply with your demand in a reasonable time, then by all means do whatever you feel you need to do within the RP scenario you are creating.  
     
    Also, you must make a reasonable demand of the person.  A time when “hands up or die” is not reasonable, is when someone is driving a car or a helicopter.  There is no way for them to put their hands up in a short amount of time.  If they pull over and exit the vehicle, then they are beginning to comply - do not just shoot them on sight.  If they turn a weapon towards you and you feel your life is in danger, then you may shoot them (but remember guns always pop out when you exit a vehicle thanks to an Arma mechanic).  The better thing to say may be “Pull over (or land), exit the vehicle, and holster your weapon immediately”.  If the person complies, then you can play out the RP scenario from there.  
    Third, when someone does comply with your demands, you must find another reason to kill them.  They complied, so your “or” statement has no meaning if you go ahead and kill them anyway.  If you say “hands up or die” and the person puts their hands up and you shoot them anyway, you will likely find yourself banned for a period of time.  If you want to further the RP scenario with them a touch and then kill them that is fine, but you must find another reason inside of your RP to end their life.  
    These changes are not a move to a hard core RP type of system, but instead are ways to make the RP inside of the Asylum servers more meaningful.  We love the fast paced nature of the game play here, but we do want RP to be more engaging for everyone.  You shouldn’t have to fear you will be killed each time you get told “hands up or die” provided you comply with the demands given to you.  
    We also would prefer RP be initiated through voice commands.  When you hide behind a text message and shoot quickly, your chances of being banned going forward will be higher.  Let’s all try to be better at RP - I think you will find it will make your gameplay here more fun.

    General Rules:

    Random Deathmatch (RDM)
    RDM is killing/downing another player without any type of HOSTILE role-play being initiated and reasonable amount of time for the target to react.
    Intentions must be clearly stated to the intended target, and they MUST be given reasonable time to react. Text messages through phone to the player is a allowed method of starting RP. Initiation last 5 minutes from the time instructions are given.
    When initiating in person and you have a gun raised and pointed at the player you intend to initiate on, the gun takes place of the threat. Therefore, saying a threat in a statement for initiation need not be done. Example: Hands up or die/be downed. (Hands up = action) (die/be downed = threat)
    Explosives:
    Suicide Vests no longer require initiation to detonate in crowded areas or to save a captured gang member. If seen wearing a suicide vest you may be shot on sight by any player without initiation. Speed bombs and Remote explosives also require no initiation to cause harm to players. RPGs and Hand Grenades still require initiation. Initiation, red names, and gang/group initiation is only allowed up to 2.5km. Any interactions of gangs/groups outside of this distance will require initiation even if you are in the same gang/group as the person initiating/being initiated on.
    Revenge killing is NOT a form of role-playing reasoning.
    RDM rules do NOT apply within ILLEGAL areas.
    Cartels, Rebel - 300 Meters. (Arm's Island in its entirety is a redzone. The redzone does not extend past the islands borders.) You must make sure you have your in-game effects volume turned up! This is the sound level for your direct communication. VON is used for Vehicle, Group, and Side chats.
    No type of initiation may be done through direct chat, side chat, 911/311, or vehicle via typing. All initiation MUST be done with your VOICE or via TEXT MESSAGE to a specific player.
    Sirens may be used by APD Officers to initiate but the officer MUST ensure players are within audible distance of the siren. This is done at the risk and discretion of the APD Officer as they are initiating on everyone within audible distance. The rules around RDM have changed slightly: Please refer to the changes Here!
    If a player complies and does what you ask, that does not give you the right to still kill them. You need to have a legit RP reason why they must still die and not having any money when you rob them is not enough. This includes people who are in restraints and have complied.
    If a player knowingly enters an active fire fight they do so at their own risk. On the same token stealing another players vehicle is also done at one's own risk.
    Property Protection
    Attempting to destroy/steal a player's property/vehicle opens you/your group up to one way initiation with the opposing group. Attempting to destroy a player owned home only grants the homeowner one way initiation with you and your group - This does not apply to group/gang members houses or houses you have keys to. The gang spawn building is excluded and all gang members are able to protect this property.  
    Asylum aggression system
    R E D = Dead 
    A player would appear red to you if they have done damage to you or a group mate recently. Players will also turn red for shooting and hitting vehicles you are in. If your gang is at war with another gang members of the rival gang will appear red. If you are in a group with non gang mates the player you are at war with will not appear red to them and you must shoot first before they are allowed to engage. Players may also appear red if they have set their title to appear red in color and are doing so at their own risk.

    Vehicle Deathmatch (VDM)
    VDM is using your vehicle as an OFFENSIVE weapon.
    Dropping a sling loaded vehicle from a helicopter to intentionally kill a player or cause destruction by "bombing" them is also considered VDM, and is not allowed.
    Armored Vehicles may be used in an offensive manner against ONLY other armored vehicles. (Strider/Hunter/Ifrit) due to the difficulty in stopping those types of vehicles.
    You may hit a player with your vehicle only if they are firing at you, and blocking your direct/only path of travel. You may not maneuver to intentionally hit a player.
    Closing a gate on a vehicle causing it to explode that results in the death of other players is considered VDM.
    Using a plane/helicopter to destroy property will be considered VDM regardless is there is a player inside or not.
    Knowingly killing/downing spangled players caused by yourself or a group/gang member is VDM.
     
    If the player was hit intentionally, and the shooter is in the same gang/group both are held responsible. If the player was hit intentionally, and the shooter is NOT in the same gang/group only the driver is held responsible . If the hit was accidental, and the shooter is in the same gang/group the shooter is held responsible. If the hit was accidental, and the shooter is NOT in the same gang/group then no one is held responsible.   
    Intentional contact between vehicles that directly causes loss of life, or the disablement or destruction of the vehicle is considered VDM. Also, repeated attempts at intentional contact that fail to cause immediate injury or loss will also be considered VDM since it's clear of the intent behind the actions.
    Car Accidents
    If you get in a car accident with another car (civ or cop) you would still need to initiate RP before you can shoot the people in the other car.
    Spike Strips
    If your vehicle gets spike stripped all occupants of the vehicle, to include their group/gang, are initiated with the group/gang that placed the spike strips. The group/gang that placed the spike strips is NOT initiated with the group/gang that was spike stripped.

    Combat Logging (CL)
    Do not exit the game, return to lobby, or respawn (suicide button) to avoid a role-play situation.
    Another player breaking rules does not give you the right to combat log.
    This rule also applies to storing vehicles. This includes, but is not limited to, being engaged in a firefight, being chased, or having your vehicle stolen after you pull it from the garage.
    You MAY log out if you have been restrained for more than 10 minutes
    This DOES NOT include APD restraints.     Exploiting
    Knowingly using a bug or glitch to your advantage or another's detriment is not allowed. 
    This includes but is not limited to: 
    Being downed/restrained and still having the ability to move. Hiding in places that conceal your player in a manner that is not intended such as, in rocks, sandbags, vehicles, static objects (crashed helicopters and vehicles placed) etc. The use of an increased DPI in order to avoid a fight or death, or any other situation where the unnatural movement speeds would impede an interaction or immersion. Exiting or driving any vehicle or helicopter, locked or unlocked, while downed or in restraints. Entering a player's house/shed by any means other than thru an unlocked/open door. (Including shed skylights). The unflip option cannot be used to elevate any vehicle to any position in which it is not able to be driven to. Dropping Y inventory to prevent other players from climbing ladders, entering doors, or to block roadways is not allowed. Quick Spooling. (See Helicopters in Misc Rules for further explanation) Attaching a macro/scroll wheel and/or any program/component assisting the firing rate of a weapon. Metagaming. Shooting the back of Qilins to cause them to explode. Sticking your barrel through a wall to kill a player. Vaulting Animation to cause your body to stick through a wall to kill another player. Intentionally soft logging after being revived/reviving another player to bypass the revive cooldown is considered an exploit.     Racism
    Racism is against the rules, in and out of character.

    Trolling & Harassment 
    Excessive trolling and harassment can be a bannable offence! Don’t be a dick!
    Admins do events to create fun for the community. If you deliberately attempt to ruin or get in the way expect action to be taken at the admins discretion. This falls under the "Don't be a dick" clause.
    Bringing anything that is personal to a player into ANY public space of Asylum, without their explicit permission is not allowed.

    Gang/Group Member Ban (GMB)
    **Intentional Harboring of a cheater in your group or gang will not be tolerated and you will be banned when caught if the evidence finds you guilty**
    You MUST be mindful of who you allow to play with you and your gang/group.
    The Gang/Group Member Ban (GMB) length will be as follows for each member if member is to be found guilty:
    Initial Ban: 30 days
    Second Ban: 60 days
    Final Ban: 180 days (Every ban beyond this will be subject to review and increased as necessary)

    Real Estate
    Asylum offers a public forum here to conduct, out of game, real estate transactions for in-game money.
    Scamming other players via the forum or in-game for real estate transactions is not allowed.
    A player may only own 5 houses per server. Attempting to bypass this will result in removal of houses with no comp provided. Continuing to bypass will result in disciplinary action being taken.
    Players who are logging in with the sole purpose of keeping houses without actually playing, risk their homes being removed with a warning. Accounts will be reviewed by Senior Admins to determine if the player is playing the bare minimum to maintain properties. ( After 2 months of low activity you will be contacted. Failure to respond will result in removal after 3rd month of low activity )

    Helicopters
    Helicopters
    Impeding the flight path of a helicopter with your own helicopter is not allowed.
                 IE: You hover over a helicopter as it is taking off, it rises up and hits you, you are responsible for the VDM. 
    Warning shots are allowed against helicopters that are attempting to land or hover near your position.
    If the helicopter does not leave the area after multiple warning shots, you may attempt to disable the helicopter.
    Players may use the advanced flight model. However, using/enabling the advanced flight model to take off will be considered exploiting regardless of the situation. Commonly referred to as "Quick Spooling" and is a bannable server violation under exploiting.
    Using advanced flight model is done so at your own risk and compensation will not be granted for any arma related bugs while using advanced flight model.

    Stream sniping
    Do not use another players stream to find out where they are or what they are doing without the specific streamers permission.

    Governor system
    The governor system is intended to be a server wide feature that allows anyone to run for and hold the position. The rule is that you, or any member of your gang CANNOT hold office more than once in a 30 day period. Any attempt to circumvent this 30 day requirement such as leaving the gang, etc. will be considered exploiting. It's imperative that we work to ensure that this server feature is not cornered by one or two groups of people. Administrators reserve the right to review and reprimand as necessary.

    Buying and Selling of money
    Buying/selling of money is a violation of rules which will be enforced with REMOVAL from the server for both parties.

    Gang tags
    Wearing a gang tag for a gang in which you are not in will result in admin action. This is being implemented to reduce the confusion during initiation, gang wars, etc. It should go without mentioning that this has the potential to negatively impact a gangs reputation if unauthorized users are representing a gang's tags.

    Rule violation compensation
    If you are playing the game and someone happens to break a rule against you. And you in turn ask for reasonable compensation (equal to the  game value of the items lost) or a reasonable amount to compensate for a situation where a monetary value was not lost. You are not able to continue the report process. By accepting compensation you forfeit the ability to report. If you decide to continue though the process, you are liable to be banned for a discretionary amount of time by the reviewing staff member.  To add, every attempt should be made to resolve a violation at the lowest level before submitting a formal report. Accidents happen and people should be given the opportunity to correct their mistake.

    AFK
    AFKing on the server for any amount of extended time in which a staff member determines to be egregious will result in administrative action being taken on you. Your first violation will be met with a warning and a sliding scale of time off the server will be in effect thereafter. Just don't do it.

    Multiple accounts
    The use of multiple accounts to knowingly benefit your other account while both are logging into the server is strictly prohibited.
    Examples but not limited to - Using one account to initiate while your other is set up in an advantageous position.
    Having multiple account simultaneously running drugs I.E one collecting/one processing/one defending.

    Restraints
    Restraints DO NOT extend initiation 
    This means that if your group/gang member has been restrained, and it has been over 5 minutes since last initiation, you will need to re-initiate before killing the players holding them.
    Administrators have the right to place bans for things that are not necessarily written that we feel to be toxic or threatening to the community.

    We want to make everyone aware of a couple changes/clarifications to server rules.
     
    Exiting or driving any vehicle or helicopter, locked or unlocked, while downed or in restraints is not allowed. Entering a player's house by any means other than thru an unlocked/open door is an exploit.
