  1. Well, this update officially killed my ability to play Asylum. I live in a rural area of California and am on a SAT internet connection Ping of around 600. It really does not interfere with the game at all, no-ones ever accused me of lag switching/exploiting. But now I get insta kicked in the lobby. Really sucks, as Arma is one of the only games that run decent (PlanetSide 2.) Well was fun.
  2. S5 appeared to mass kick a few moments ago. Getting really sick of this shit.

I will not/do not support you or your claim. These rules are here for a reason and you MAY be mature for YOUR age. But I can without a doubt say you are not as mature as the APD needs. Tough luck kid.
  4. I'm starting to think the overall issue here is the staff team does not want to have a bit of accountability and say "Okay maybe we were wrong." Too much ego had and respect demanded rather than earned. I completely agree with your post.
  5. "Vocal minority" would you not consider that then the majority actually interested in feedback? Willing to say the casual user only made a forum account for a gang app or the APD. Your "Unique Users" that are not well embedded into the fiber of community feedback and simply play to play should be deemed as the minority when taking into account community polls. Seems like a skewed viewpoint to me.
  6. I didn't get the impression speed meant that in a condescending way more of a "Why the hell would you want to do that". Hard to interpret tone over writing.
  7. I can't say this without being slightly offensive but it is criticism. They are not doing a very good job of it, or simply the system they are using to conduct PR needs to be overhauled and better designed to fit a community of this size. A vast majority of the backlash towards the dev team could be negated by a more structured PR team. I get there are a lot of immature individuals here whom would rather troll with no viable argument or suggestion. There are those like me however whom like to ask hard questions in effort to improve it for all of the above dealing with variables X Y and Z
  8. I completely agree, out of touch with the community. Asylum REALLY needs a dedicated Public Relations part of the administrative team. I see their motto is to keep it small, but admins volunteer. I used to be the highest admin rank you could get to on a SAMP RP server (largest English speaking 700+ users per day, team of 90+ admins.) and we HAD to have a dedicated PR team to communicate effectively with the players and staff otherwise you run into situations like this where "Staff: We are right, fuck you. Players: We don't think so." leads to a perpetual state of back and fourth non-sense until an inevitable collapse. Easy to do, people will volunteer to do it and it would strengthen the community. Edit: Let's take a real world example here, well known and long established Arma community "ADK" is dying right now kicking and screaming for this EXACT reason. PR admins host community meetings, events, dev discussions and creating more effective player input options. @Paratus @bamf I'll go ahead and wait for the carefully explained reason why this cannot be done....
  9. I work two jobs, one of which is remote desktop assistance and I'm also a Front Desk Manager at a well established hotel. I live in California which if you've any idea of how this state is it's terribly expensive to live above the poverty line. Paying for a mortgage, and 2 car payments per month is not EZ PZ. I really don't like the idea of my spouse taking on work either if it can be avoided. I'm looking into moving east somewhere so I don't get raped so hard.
  10. Well, if I COULD choose it would be game life. Sadly, short of winning the lottery that choice is made for you if you want to have a actual life. #Lifeception
  11. Why do I need a different job? I make plenty of money, own my own house and support me and my wife. I'm your average American and that is what it takes to survive in this day and age.
  12. Thoughts on Drug Runner @bamf (I know it's long, but please just read.) I think when this was discussed you fellas severely underestimated the risk that is already present, and the statistical data that was analyzed is flawed. While YES Drug Runs were completed you are not accounting for the very common scenario in which the pilot does not receive his run due to robbery/vehicular crash. APD is not the primary risk factor, you are correct. Drug Runner was one of the only activities that did not cater to large groups (As 90% of the ground games do.) I'm going to throw a guestimate out here and say around 40% of the time the pilots do not receive the money from the run due to aforementioned reasons based on my own experience. You are right in the fact that a plain clothes newbie can jump right into the plane, but you neglect to take into account a plain clothes newbie with a rook can sit right outside of the zone and come up on the previous payout of 37k EASIER than doing the run. Did it have enough risk? Oh hell yea. The friendly stage of Drug Runner was ending and it was becoming more volatile, you did not let it play out long enough to see the effects and many many variables and dynamics associated with the Drug Runner. It did not get to run it's course before the nerf hammer was swung. Players are not extremely upset because of the money reduction, I'd be willing to say that it was a great way to make money that was also FUN. You have completely sucked the fun out of drug runner and it now a run of the mill grind rather than a cool unique experience. Awhile back I even complained that Drug Runner was Apex bias (It still is.) but shortly after I learned to camp the runner until I bought Apex and I made a fair amount from doing that, you provided a way for two different play styles to co-exist in a risky yet still entertaining manner, while also bridging the DLC gap. We want people to go back to ground being the primary means of money making, great? Not so much, why isn't ground fun? It's incredibly time consuming and for working class people it's a really kick in the head when you spend an hour doing a meth run for a gang of 20+ to fuck you up "Because they can and also ""EZ PZ GIT GUD KID."" That's severely disheartening. Some of my best times in Asylum thus far has been getting a drug runner mission, putting on some Van Halen "Jump" and enjoying the view as I try to make money, it was a perfect fun activity that didn't demand ABSOLUTE robot style attention span. There is a big misconception (I assume from how life in general USED to be.) that somehow, with this money cap removal the server population is going to self destruct in no-time because of the Drug Runner, that's a broad assumption from the staff team. There was PLENTY of risk, I lost money more often than I deposited it. But because of the ease of use I didn't want to just quit the game because so much time was wasted and feel like shit at the end because no matter how hard I tried and how good I am I couldn't best a group of 5. I tried everything in the books to do meth, even the "Grab an offroad" method you mentioned and it does not work. When I got into Karnage I was able to do ground drug runs with the support of multiple people. Who are we trying to kid exactly? New players are MUCH better off with the old drug runner when they have no-one to play with or turn to then trying to farm for hours only to be rekt. The end all goal of this community is to provide a fun atmosphere along with fun activities everyone can enjoy, why does it have to be such a slug fest of "IT NEEDS TO BE DARK SOULS 2 HARD OR ITS NERFED". What exactly is wrong with people having fun, making money and kitting up to go do what they wanted to do from the start? Gang wars..etc. With the old drug runner given enough time, more people would reach the cap faster and you would have more cartel wars from gangs more banks/feds giving the APD something to do besides sit in Kavala Square all day. It's a win-win for just about everyone as it would allow for people to be less frugal all the damn time. Why don't we take this back to the drawing board of the very very limited staff team, host a community meeting and get some serious input. Rather than the Illuminati type decision making that seems to be going on here by the staff. Very few people were in support of a nerf as evident by forum posts. Let's not let 13 people decide on how the other 300+ community members should feel about the runner. -Sincerely, Eldar, a 24 year old 90 hour work week community member.
  13. Кaяnage - Revamped (Server 4) Hello! Allow me to begin by saying that Karnage has been reformed under new leadership with Chapo still at the front of the chain but with more leaders and completely new gang policies to make us perform better in both an RP standpoint and tactical standpoints. While, we acknowledge some bad blood in the past with a lot of gangs and we apologize for the behavior. As of tonight, we have done nearly a complete purge of the gang (Inactives, known Rule Breakers.) and will be newly recruiting. I (Eldar) will be speaking with various gang leaders to see what we can do to improve our standing among the community. In the mean time, on this thread I will be listing changes we have made and new policies as well as a revamped format. Mission Statement: We here at Karnage are now striving to promote role-play among the gangs and with police, while also providing a safe outlet for new players to learn and grow hopefully to stick around with Karnage but also to let them choose their own path once they have learned the in's and out's of Asylum. We hope to develop new relationships and crush past beef with other rival/allied gangs. We set out to have fun and also make the server fun for others, while establishing a clear cut line of communication between gang leaders, gang members and other misc. individuals. We plan to host server wide events for prizes, where winners will get awesome gifts! Thanks for reading about the new Karnage and we hope to see you soon! Trainings: Very soon, training's will be scheduled across all three time-zones (OC, EU, NA) we have moved towards a system to have a high command online near 24/7 to crack down on rule breaking committed by the gang and also to give all of our members and potential members a fair shot at these fun activities (Robberies, Fed/Bank, Prison Break, Cartels...etc.) Training's will be held by either the Assistant Leaders or Recruiting Officers bi-weekly as much as work/school schedules will allow. These training's will be scheduled on a google doc calendar (Similar to APD.) within the near future! Changelog: Promotions: Eldar - Promoted to Assistant Leader Frylock - Promoted to Assistant Leader Achilles - Promoted to Recruiting Officer Demotions: 46 inactive members 5 members found to be breaking server rules were removed. Left: Osprey - (R.I.P <3) Application Format: (Must be over 16 years of age to apply, must have knowledge of Arma 3 shooting mechanics, must be able to communicate in tac-ops only scenarios and real time situations. 300+ hours in Arma 3)
  14. Wow major +1 here. Thanks for summing that up for us
  15. CCG fell to bad staff though, I played there maybe once back in the day in Arma 2 and the staff was bad. Worse than Gnashes even. But, yea I acknowledge full well these aren't rules, nor do I think they should be. However, they are vital to understand for RP.
  16. Believe me, I don't expect this to cause a massive surge in RP. But I would argue you don't see much RP because people don't really know how. The guide just serves to enlighten people for those that DO wish to RP. Not those that will not/don't.
  17. Acknowledged and understood. However, also not the overall goal of the server. Hence the guide.
  18. Intro: Hello everyone! First off I would like to state I am a very experienced Roleplayer, I began in GMOD 9, then moved to SAMP (San Andreas Multiplayer) where I was a Head Administrator on the largest English speaking server for a few years. Then to Arma 2 and now 3.This guide is to give you a general idea of how to get started in RP, RP terms and scenarios, lastly I'll be touching on the effect of RP. Part I: What is Roleplay? Roleplay is the ability to be anyone and anything you choose to be (Within realistic reason) inside the world of Arma, life is NOT all about gunfights and explosions (as the server loves to remind us every 20 minutes.). Roleplay is the way in which to act and react to events going on around you, Roleplay is what enables you to turn a bad situation (100k bounty) into a good situation (pardon.) It's all about a story, one that you write and one that you decide how it ends. Proper RP will also help you succeed in the APD. Part II: RP Terms! Alright, so a lot of these are not "Rules" here on asylum however, for proper RP however these terms would still apply and you should be mindful of them when attempting Roleplay with other users so as to make it go smoothly. (OOC) - This means Out Of Character or not related to the RP. (IC) - In Character, these are scenarios or actions within the RP (PG) - Powergaming - This is a big one, PG is doing anything that is unrealistic or unfair such as "/me flys away" while RP'ing with another user. If it does not give the user a chance to react or counter act your RP, that is Power Gaming. (MG) - Metagaming - MG is the act of using OOC (Out of Character) information within a IC (In Character) manner. Examples of this are game functions that wouldn't be able to be viewed from the eyes of your character (Names above head) or information gained from an outside source such as Teamspeak. (FailRP) - There are many many many ways something could be considered "Fail RP" but I'll go ahead and give you a few examples: "You are being arrested by APD, you tell them you have a medical condition that cuts circulation to your hands while being restrained, and that it could cause a blood clot in which you would die. APD then unrestrains you per your RP and expects you to continue RP'ing with them, instead as soon as the restraints are removed you high tail it into the water and suicide. That would be a prime example of FailRP". Another example would be: You are armed, but your weapon is holstered, another player comes up to rob you with a gun in your face. As he says hands up, you point blank draw your weapon and shoot him. That would be considered FailRP as there is no fear for your life. (RDM) - Random Death Matching - Can be defined as killing a player without reason. People usually get RDM and KOS mixed up with each other as it's possible to commit RDM without committing KOS. However, it's not possible to commit KOS without committing RDM. A note for new players: Red zones are always KOS/RDM areas, there are no rules preventing John Wayne from putting you down the second he sees you. (KOS) - Killing on Sight - KOS can be defined by shooting someone the second you see them, going back to the previous (RDM) you may or may not have a reason to kill them. Outside of the red zones this is a major offense and will earn you some ban time, don't let your temper get to you and initiate with people to be safe (Believe me I learned the hard way.) (VDM) - Vehicle Deathmatching - Running someone over with a vehicle, this should be avoided at all times. Those are the core terms when discussing RP. However there are more and may be added at a later time. Part III: RP Scenarios! So you may ask "But Eldar! How do I START Roleplay with another user?" Well little noob you goona learn today. This section will cover some basic scenarios, RP actions and a first hand example here on Asylum that I have personally done (JDdragon can attest to it.) Initiating Roleplay: Believe it or not, it's really easy to start Roleplaying. The first step of course would be to establish who your character is, are you a ruthless mercenary moved to Altis to find fortune behind the barrel of a gun? Are you a fisherman that is down on his luck but needs to provide for his family? There are hundreds of thousands of different character types you could dream up and RP. Initiating Roleplay is very very simple, all you have to do is talk to people! Crazy right? After speaking with someone AS the character you created and sharing your story, RP fast tracks much on it's own into becoming something new. The melding of your RP Story compared to the other users merges and from that point on you can go with the flow. It's important to note that almost every non-violent interaction with another player is a form of RP and if it is not it could be. Useful tips: Animations helps provide some immersion into the Roleplay. By typing #e you can do a list of available animations to assist what you are RP'ing via text. IE: Piss, Pushups, Salute..etc. It's always good to represent your actions both physically and written for that immersion factor. Scenario: So, I'm a proud member of "Karnage" a S4 gang. Our leader Chapo had gotten himself a 150k bounty due intense killing and robbing. He went to turn himself in with me representing him as an attorney. Now, a 150k bounty is a big big deal and wouldn't be easy to negotiate his release and pardon. We ran into officer "Neal" a captain within the APD, knowing his extensive list of crimes I jumped into a insanity or mentally unstable case and recommend immediate action in the form of private healthcare that was not offered by the prison of Altis. I gave Neal the story of how he was drugged in his youth and had been to war so he suffered from severe PTSD and exhibited Sociopathic tendencies, I recommended a experimental electric shock treatment trial the local hospital in Kavala had running. After some debating back and fourth about the seriousness of his condition Neal agreed to take him to the hospital for electric shock treatment where he underwent a few various physical and mental test supervised by the APD. He was pardoned. It's all about how you spin the story and how respectful you are with other users trying to RP their own story. Part IV: Bonus! RP'ing with the APD. The Altis Police Department has a LOT of hidden rules and policies to remain professional and efficient that rebels and civs are simply not familiar with and will never see unless they join the APD. They are monitored for corruption nearly 24/7 under watchful eyes. They probably get RDM'ed/KOS'ed and VDM'ed the most out of everyone currently playing. After awhile like any one of us it can get stressful to deal with people who ONLY want to put you in the ground. Here are some tips for RP'ing with the APD: 1. Don't be a dick for no reason what-so-ever. They are just RP'ing their respective job and arresting you is not a OOC attack on your person, just work with them, be compliant and get ready to prepare your defense for whatever it was you were detained for. 2. Treat them with the same respect you would treat everyone else. 3. Do not threaten them if you aren't released, that's so asinine and only makes them not want to cut you a break even more. 4. Give them something interesting to hear when you plead your case. "I didn't do it, fuck you." is not a valid case in your defense it just makes you look more guilty and a bit of an asshole. Lastly, always remember that the APD are like you and me, real people behind their monitors trying to have fun. Why not help them have fun as well by including them in the action and roleplay and not shunning them because they have to do their duties as police. Part V: Conclusion I hope this guide has helped you understand RP a bit better. Altis Life was never meant to be a "Make money run and gun" game but it does allow for that. Roleplay can seriously improve relations all across the board with other players and staff. It's a very important part of what makes "Life" tick. Without it, it would just be a straight RDM fest with no goal in mind other than to make money and DM which gets very very boring and those seeking that sort of thing should move to wasteland or exile. Become something great! Make a name for yourself! If you need advice on RP or have questions feel free to reply to this thread or drop me a PM at anytime. Have a nice day!
  19. They are usually on, you have to keep in mind the staff team isn't huge and the majority of them aren't in the EU timezone. I highly recommend you get some sort of recording software (Fraps, ShadowPlay, OBS.) to aid you. That's what I will be doing when my ban is up.
  20. Why? Not much of an advantage here. If anything it's a disadvantage.
  21. Or how we about boost the LEGAL shit and promote more RP.
