Wondero's Flight Sim Exhibit

Figured I would start this thread again for those of you who are interested in flight simming, or some of you pilots (like me) and plane fanatics in the community.

The biggest question I probably receive is: Do you fly all of your flights in the sim in real time (1x)?

And the answer is yes, I do. Even if the flight is 17 hours long, I will sit there and watch my plane for 17 hours. In the real world, you'd have a second set of captain/copilot but who wants to do that in a sim? :P

I did an evening trip from Las Vegas to Baltimore today and thought my approach on final was absolutely spectacular.

I'll continue to post great shots like that over time as I get them.

What sim is that?

It's Lockheed Martin's Prepar3D (P3D) (http://www.prepar3d.com/)

It's basically a replica of the old and absolute trash Flight Simulator X by Microsoft with a lot of performance differences. P3D offers way better memory allocators and with the $1000+ worth in mods to make my sim as realistic as possible, I need all the memory-saving technology I can get.

I don't do this, but wouldn't staring at the screen for 17 hours with just the plane in the sky get boring? Or do you set it on autopilot and do other things.

Well no pilot in real life would hand fly the entire cruise portion of the flight. So to answer your question, yes, I do set the autopilot and do other things in the background on my computer but I am still attentive to what's going on in the cockpit.

Any other flight sims that are decent without spending a grand? lol

To start off, I would recommend Flight Simulator X. It's a perfectly fine sim for the default aircraft it has. Practice some of your departures and landings, and as you gain experience and can land and takeoff without breaking the plane, that's when I would start investing money.

The grand that I've spent over time is on mods and addons to make aspects such as airports, weather, airplanes, etc. as close to real life as possible.

Hello fellow pilots at heart yes I like to take it to the sky's as well. I do like FSX when I was younger, I also am a real life pilot I have my PPL private pilots License. I also was in the air force for 6 years I was a Weapons Loader on the F-15's I was in the 65th Aggressor Fighter Squadron Nellis AFB Las Vegas. I also got to ride in the back seat of a F-15D Eagle ill post a pic of me in it. I have 1.5 hours in the Eagle in real life the G forces were very intense I had to learn how to do the hick maneuver to keep me from passing out. If any one else has had any real life experiences would be nice to know.

I usually use X-Plane 10 for simming, idk what it is about it but i really seem to enjoy it over FSX and other sims... I usually fly the 737-200 by FlyJSim. I am also currently a student pilot working towards my PPL hoping to have a career in flying some day :)
