EMT Questions and Suggestions

Recommended Posts

Hey guys. I'm a brand new EMT. Last night was my first night on the job in Kavala. WOW was I busy even with another EMT running around. Had LOADS of fun. I do have a couple questions as well as some suggestions for other EMTs (granted, I have limited experience).

Questions:

1-How do you turn on the siren? I know how the lights work, but I didn't see siren in the mouse scroll menu. I'd also be curious if there are any keyboard shortcuts for signals.

2-What is the medical weed used for, lol? I mean I know you can use it yourself, but can you give it to someone for pain relief, etc? Same question for the adrenaline shot. Not something I plan to buy in the near future (as buying splints, blood bags, and getting my car out of the garage is eating a big enough hole into my meager wages) but it would be good to know.

3-Are there any general tips for dealing with police? I don't want to piss off any police officers by brining back someone I shouldn't.

4-Is there any way to move a patient? I was using defibs on an unconscious guy in the middle of the street and got run over. It would be nice if we could drag them to safety first. I also had an EMT call for someone who drowned. Fortunately he wasn't too far in but I would have liked to drag him out of the water rather than risk drowning myself. I've no idea how I would handle someone who was out in the middle of the ocean.

Suggestions to other EMTs:

1. Please use the radio! I tuned in to all the radio channels trying to raise someone and got no response. It would save a lot of time if I know that someone is en route to a medic alert so we don't show up and another EMT is already on the job.

2. Let's set an RP example. We're not in this job for the cash (obviously). I RP treating a patient and make sure they are OK before I leave them. I've been offered tips for doing so (I haven't accepted any yet but I'm thinking long and hard about that given expenses).

3. If you're new, use the talent system to unlock your car. We're got lots of great abilities including the chance of not using a splint when we help someone, regaining full food and water when we revive, repairing vehicles without a repair kit, etc.

Appreciate the help and hope my suggestions are helpful to any new EMTs out there like me!!

1. Press F to turn on the siren sound, it takes a little before you can turn them off again.

2. It's just another form of a pain killer but people can make it and sell it.

3. If a someone tells you not to revive someone and you do, you're probably gonna die unless it's a cop. A cop will probably put you in cuffs and charge you with disobeying an order from an officer.

4. Right now you can only revive people where they are, it is not possible to drag them.

Yeah someone (not a cop) told me not to revive someone or they'd shoot me. It took me a few seconds to figure out how to stop the process. I thought I was a goner but I managed to stop in the nick of time. Still absolutely floored no one bothered to rob or shoot me in the head after about 7 deaths as a civilian in half the time I played as an EMT. The strange thing was, I'd saved a few people and when the person ran me over while I was trying to revive someone, they all jumped in and started shooting him down when he swung around to do it again! Shocker! I think it helps being a woman playing an EMT in a game vastly dominated by men though haha :) Thanks again for your help! BTW, I'm Savannah in-game, if you ever see me, say hi.

p.s. Are they EVER going to make female character models for Arma 3? Running around as a bearded guy (although ruggedly handsome) gives me the creeps :)

1. Not many people use the radio. If it is an urgent message, i've just blurted it in side chat. When playing medic the only people that can see or hear the side chat are your fellow medics.

2. All your medical supplies are replaced upon respawn. I believe the adrenaline shots are for civilians. When a civilian defib is used, the patient wont be able to run for a brief time. The adrenalinle shot will allow him to run. Don't worry about getting them.

3. If you see police standing around a dead body, it's fine to revive them. Police can also revive people too.

4. One of the talents you can learn allows you to see other medics on the map so that should help with the confusion in your radio question

In response to your other question on a different thread regarding medics being robbed. Yes, we get held up, all the time. Normally they just want the clothes. A lot of times you'll be gunned down reviving someone. It's just part of the job. If there is a war going on in kavala, or a major shoot out I like to drop my clothes and night vision and run around naked and when no one is paying attention, go in for the revive :)

p.s. No, I don't believe they will be making female models for ArmA

Great answers, thank you very much!! Thanks for the defib info. A civ told me that they had a defib and I was thinking wtf, I thought just cops and EMTs had those.

Now I have more questions (sorry to be a pain):

1. If someone does take my clothes, can I get another set? I don't recall seeing them on any of the venders at the hospital.

2. If Medical Supplies are replaced on respawn, you just suicide when you run out of something? Seems crazy but better than dropping $120 a splint.

3. If you arrive on a scene and another EMT is working on someone and there are multiple people needing revived, is it rude to jump in and help?

Thanks again!

Awesome. Thanks again, you've been so kind to put up with my questions! I think I'm good to go :)

Yeah being an EMT is DEFINATELY a crazy race. I've pretty much stayed in Kevala but others seem to have the same idea. Not sure if other towns are just as busy. I've definitely noticed when I arrive at a scene with my ambulance, there is usually someone trying to steal it from me lol. I'm sure someone will use lockpicks and carjack it eventually! Thanks again and please say hi if you see me out and about. I'm glad I stuck around asylum.

I also think that adrenaline shots are used to get back someone unconsious back again faster ( poeple that has been down by rubber bullets) and If you want to increase your EMT experience you can hop into the TeamSpeak channel assigned to EMT's, Haven't been there but probably you will find someone there.

Be sure to read the APD guidebook section titled "Medics" (line 101) under the "Police Etiquette and Ethics" tab here.

The TL;DR is when you come upon a combat situation between the cops and civs, the cops can down or even lethal you if you revive someone when told not to. So check your map when you get close to the Bank of Altis, Prison or Federal Reserve, if it says "Robbery in Progress" or "Elevated Security", you will want to text the cops to let them know you're there or the cops will probably shoot you thinking you're a rebel. The cops will love you if you revive them and don't revive the rebels, but likewise rebels will love you if you revive them and not the cops. So tread carefully.

Also remember that you can land your medic heli within city limits iff you are there to revive somebody. If you are landing there just for kicks, you're breaking the law, cops can search and charge you (see APD ticketing guide).

In general when dealing with cops, if a cop is close by just ask them real quick if it's okay to revive someone before you do. You can always hit ESC to cancel the revive.

GLHF!

Thanks. The link you provided didn't work but I'll look for it. One last question (I promise). Is there a way to pull up someone's name? For example' date=' a lot of times when I show up and someone is unconscious, there name doesn't show up for me. Just curious.[/quote']

Try the link again I think I fixed it.

On Asylum we use a Tilde system (~ button to the left of 1). Hold it down and put your cursor on a person and you can get their names to show. Works on vehicles too. If someone's dead their name sometimes won't show up but when you're reviving them it should say it in the "Reviving X%" loading bar.

Feel free to ask any more questions, that's what the forums are for hah

Thank you! I'm actually really interested in doing the job well. It's more about the RP for me than anything. There is something exhilarating about running up and saving someone, especially the ones that really appreciate you. Some servers have a dispatcher role that coordinates police and EMTs. Maybe Asylum will have something like that one day. Take care.
