I took an elective course in college called "Nuclear Weapons in a Post Soviet World" and it was by far one of the most interesting courses I've ever had.

ARMA did a pretty good job on the explosion animation except for the initial flash.  The flash is crazy bright even from a distance.

Here is a slow motion gif of the Castle Bravo shot in 1954 early in the thermonuclear age:
