Gatorade
So i just bought a samsung 500gb ssd, and i completely dont feel like having to reinstall all my drivers , cd's, and OS. I have read that you can clone your HDD to your SDD. So the following questions would be appreciated if you had any input: 1.) Have you done it? 2.) Is it hard? 3.) Any advice , or am I wrong about the above procedure? 4.) Generic tips / and or input? Edit: Forgot a huge question - Lets say I get it all perfectly installed or cloned. Can my old HDD just continue to be used ? or do i have to repartition it to not be a master slave drive anymore or something? Excuse me if I sound retarded im trying to get the peices together Thank you all Edited February 11, 2016 by Sugarfoot Link to comment

I figured why not have the OS on it Move the OS for a lot faster boot times, move arma as well as any other games you want. The other random programs you were saying that you have for school etc. you can just leave on your old drive if it is too much effort to move them. Edit: After you move the OS to your SSD you will have to go into your BIOS and in there change the boot order so it goes to SSD before HDD. Edited February 11, 2016 by CyanogenCX Link to comment

Just set it as primary and you should be fine. However, recently I added an old HDD I had lying around to my computer which had an old version of windows in it, and when I boot it up it asks me if I want to go into configuration utility or something. I usually just ignore that message as it only lasts for 2-3 seconds. I'm not sure if that is because of windows or something else, but it is a small price to pay. Link to comment

I mean thats no biggie, i have a fake windows so it takes a solid 10 minutes to start up anyways. I was only buying the SSD because of the super shaky frames I get. I get good frames but my HDD is old as balls and it clearly cant handle loading the map Link to comment

bamf
You shouldn't clone a HDD to an SSD unless you know that the partition alignment is done properly on the HDD. When in doubt, reinstall the OS onto the SSD. Keep the HDD, and once you have installed the OS and your base drivers you can move things over like all of your games. If you move the steam folder into the correct location on the SSD, you can then just have steam find the games and save the time of downloading them again. After you've gotten everything in place, I would format the old HDD and then continue to use it as a storage drive - but maybe that's just me... Link to comment

Richard Parker
https://ninite.com/ is a website that you select all the programs you want to install and it downloads them and installs them automatically. Uses the most preferred settings and no spyware or ads. Just a pro tip, I've used it for the past 5 years. Link to comment

bamf
It is easy, but again unless it's SSD to SSD I would be somewhat wary. It's all about the partition alignment with an SSD - if it's wrong, you kill your performance. This first random Google link talks about the alignment a touch. You could always clone it and then check it out, if it's wrong you would want to secure erase the SSD and then re-install. Link to comment

Regardless, if your performance is off a bit on the SSD because of the process, it will still perform better than your HDD ever did. GL Link to comment

Hilde
I went to SSDs and I'll never go back. You will honestly notice the difference immediately by dedicating an SSD to your OS... Then install Arma 3 and its bliss. Happy Gaming once you do Link to comment
