instamac
Quick question, I had an AMD Athlon X4 860k quad core and when I have asked before people tell me my CPU is my weakest link and Amd does not run well with arma. I have a spare i7 920 CPU would it be worth it to use this instead? Thanks My specs if needed: Edited February 4, 2016 by roca Link to comment

Sean // Fitty Bread
AMD does not run worse on Arma. Most AMD chips are usually shipped with more cores and less speed per core, which is bad for the Arma engine, but AMD does have good chips with nice clock speeds that can run the game easily. It's more than that, but that helps the most. I don't know if your mobo supports it or if your AMD chip has a higher clock, but the 920 might not be an upgrade. Link to comment
Fluxah
generally speaking, for games such as Arma, Intel > AMD, I am switching from AMD to Intel atm, but for your specs in particular, stick to your AMD instamac likes this Link to comment

Treeherder
Get the i5 6600k. It's probably the best price to performance out there now and I get 60+ fps on ultra with it. Cre likes this Link to comment
Gubber Flexx
went from a FX-8350 to a i7-6700k sky lake and my frames increase was insane like KOTH runs at 60! Link to comment

HotWings
I have used AMD for years, the only game that I have encountered that Intel is significantly better at is Arma. Root and Aabrams like this Link to comment
KevinOB
Your i7 won't fit in your amd mobo. So you would have to buy a old mobo for your old i7. So either use your amd cpu/mobo. Or buy a intel cpu/mobo, and a new gpu while your at it, and a 1080p monitor wouldn't hurt. Gl. Link to comment

AMD is Awesome! Unless you don't have bills or a life or a family, and you have an extra 2k to spend on a good quality i7, or a 8 core Skylark.. And that means you need a MoBo to drop.
