Tyler
I got a 2560x1080 144hz monitor a while back and loved it the second i plugged it in. But today I read an article concerning HDMI not being able to run 1080p at 144hz and decided to hook up a DisplayPort cable I had laying around instead (previously I had never realized they were used for 144hz and figured an HDMI would work fine). I haven't even loaded up a game yet and the difference is INSANE! The monitor is brighter and much better quality compared to the HDMI, and everything looks more saturated with color. If you guys are trying to run anything higher than 1080p at 60hz and using a HDMI cable switch over to a DisplayPort if your GPU supports it! Link to comment

Guest
HDMI is only capable of 60hz. Therefore, it's not going to output more than that no matter how awesome your monitor is. Link to comment
Clint Beastwood
TL;DR Use display-port. Analogy : Go run a marathon and breathe through a straw only (HDMI) vs Run a marathon normally (Display-Port) Tyler, Twinkie and Jake like this Link to comment

massi
Your monitor's HDMI port probably doesn't support 144hz. HDMI is capable of pushing 144hz, but only in the newer revision, 2.0. The port on your monitor is most likely not HDMI 2.0 Link to comment
