Brief message about bad characters in player names

Recommended Posts

Hello,

It has been discovered that apostrophe's (') being present in your player name will cause any offers you make to the Altis Exchange not to go through, and your product or funds will be lost. Other non-ascii characters could also possibly cause this, such as quotation marks (") or backticks (`). In any case you should never be using quotation marks in your name, as it will also break other features within the mission.

This is because the exchange attempts to include your player name with offer information, however once it reaches a speech mark of any sort it assumes that the string has ended, resulting in an error in syntax halting the query.

In the mean time while a solution is investigated, remove any instances of an apostrophe/quotation mark/backtick from your player name. It is also possible that there are other bad characters which could cause database queries to fail which I have not listed.

Can we just ban these characters from the servers?

Paratus does not wish to do so; much to the entire Admin team's displeasure.

Not that Master needs a reason, but I'd like to know what his is. If it causes problems, as it has for a long time now not just the exchange system, it makes no sense to keep allowing them as they have no purpose other than 'looking cool' and even that is a weak argument.

He doesn't want new players who get kicked for special characters to not reconnect because they don't want to change their name.

Paratus is the one that built the server, sure he's a pain in the ass in terms of changes but Asylum is his brain child

Paratus is extremely smart. it's these little things that make Asylum have such a solid population.
