Tips on medium range combat/peeking

Do you use adaptive crosshair?  If so, turn it off.  You can line up your shots from behind cover and peak already aimed close to/on your target.

Watch some of the montages from the cartel players and just get familiar with Asylum combat.

yea i try to do that, it does help to line up shots. i find my biggest downfall is im always fumbling with my sights/breath. also, for some reason, i can never steady my scope even with breath held. all the montages show guys with rock hard sights, but mine is like a noodle :(

For breath, don't hold down right click.  Hold down right click is the default keybind for "hold breath" which only lasts a limited amount of time.

So aim down your sight by clicking the right mouse button rather than holding it down.  Then hold when you need to steady your shot to fire.

Get good with third person cross hair, its in the game for a reason, if youre behind cover and see someone, line up your cross hair and be ready to fire your shot as soon as you peak.

if in in 3rd person and zooming in with my rmb, then i see them exposed, i have to wait for my zoom to go back out, i need to stand up, then i need to rmb again to use sight, which is always really clunky for me. is there any way to make the 3rd person -> peak -> hard aim any smoother?

Basically, go into third person, look around or watch the guy you want to shoot etc, line up your cross hair, once youre ready to peak all you have to do is zoom in as your standing up and you should be fine, you cant just get good within a day you just need to practice.

Line up the shot before you peek, stand up, shoot, crouch.

If you're shaky on peeking practice with your friends in one of the military bases that no1 goes to and pass around defibs, it's good practice (even though it's usually not going to happen like that in cartel fight) for lining up a shot before the peek, and keeping that shot accurate after you stand up. Also, Ctrl+D makes you peek very quickly, and if you're crouched and Ctrl+S, your scope doesn't move at all when standing up, even though it does slow the peek a little it seems to help in accuracy for me.

#1 Rule to live by: Don't peek for too long or you'll get your head taken off by a good player ESPECIALLY in deerstands and large towers, like meth tower or Kavala rebel tower.

Not much else to add except for KOTH is really good for practicing this type of stuff, i.e not hard aiming out of large towers/deerstands lining up shots pre-peek, etc.

GLHF cya at the cartels.

Practice.

If you don't fight a lot on Asylum, you can download a scenario like Holdout to set up fights against AI. Every time a patch changes something with the shooting, I spend a couple of hours in that scenario shooting 400-500m targets from a deerstand.

Also, make sure your settings are good. No mouse smoothing, depth of field and all that jazz.

i've never really watched any montages or anything like that in my arma career until about a month ago, and it has really helped me step up my own gameplay learning from the pros, I never understood how they were able to peek so fast and bust out 300m+ kills instantly up until a little while ago. And now I am finding I am able to slowly be able to pull off similar shots more consistently.

Do prison breaks continually.

Improving at Arma 3 is an often ineffective process.

I've played for 2.5k hours and only now am I starting to consistently get kills at cartels.

Bikstok plays wasteland an absolute shit ton in his spare time.

Just practise practise practise.
