The casing usually flies off from the bullet and is basically just a piece of slow shrapnel. From what it sounds like you only set off the primer so there was no danger as the powder didn't even go off.

The back of the casing shot out fast as fuck and hit my hand like 1300 km/h then either is still in my hand or went past my ear cause my ear was ringing for a minute.... but I tanked pretty hard I had no armor and survived a .45 round its 1shot w/out armor boys
