Masonn
So i seen tons of people post their computer specs to look for improvement so here i am doing the same. From my understanding my computer has pretty good specs but yet i still get around 50-60 FPS pretty much anywhere and around 40 in towns? Is there anything i could improve on which would make a big difference? Walt, .Casper and Google™ like this Link to comment
Google™
For Arma specifically the only way I can imagine an improvement in performance is in the CPU. Aim for Intel and really good ones such as i7-7700k etc. Most people who get good FPS usually have and i7. Arma 3 is more CPU based than GPU Also it depends what settings you play on, you may be getting the best FPS possible at all and getting a cpu may not affect it at all. Arma 3 is a terribly optimized game. By terribly optimized I mean they didn't even try to optimize it. Edited January 13, 2019 by Google™ Link to comment
Midamaru
@Mason Statham You have single channel RAM (one chip), to increase your RAM bandwidth you could use two or four RAM chips. In your case placing a 2nd 16GB RAM from the same brand/kind would probably help. Can't really tell you how much, i'm not that good. If you're interested you could read up on how it works. https://www.pcsteps.com/7932-real-ram-speed-mhz-cas-latency/ As far as your CPU goes, you can look at this benchmark to see the difference in performance. 1060GTX 6GB is fine for arma. I would say your graphics card doesn't need an upgrade. You got SSD which is good, no change needed either. Aside from your specs it could also be software related that holds your performance back, for example running 420 tabs of Chrome or a heavy anti virus scanner ect can really hold back your performance. @Sean That Irish Guy is the specialist here tho, i dunno if he has anything to add. Yeah, the RAM was the thing which i knew was the most shit part of my computer along with the CPU. It's 2 8 gb sticks but they're pretty budget. Just want to know which parts i should get which would run pretty much all games to a good standard. Link to comment
.Casper
I have pretty much the same specs as u and i also only get 60-90 fps in game for some weird reason. Link to comment

I don't hit 90 ever though, maybe i'll tap 70 fps in the middle of nowhere but won't get higher. Link to comment

I got a 1060 3gb, i7 7700, 16 gb ram 2 sticks/8 On a good day ill get 100 on Asylum, but in koth im legit stuck at 30-50 and its fucking horrible. Link to comment

There is no change between budget and fancy ass memory. All that matters are that you're running it in dual chan and speed/timings. I would upgrade to the new Ryzen 3000 series chips when they come out, your GPU is fine and if you also set ARMA 3 in your Task Manager to High or Real Time, you could maybe pump out an extra few frames, when I did it, I think I got an exra 5-10fps. But, there is nothing that is wrong with your system on the specs sheet. Edited January 13, 2019 by Twinkie Link to comment

The clockspeed of the cores are slow and people don't know that having 8 cores doesn't help you shit with most games, including ARMA 3. Quote Arma 3 was architected at a time when there was tremendous advancement in clock speed in each chip generation. BI assumed this trend would continue indefinitely but it was only a short time later Intel ran into a major wall (due to electron leakage at the tiny trace sizes used in the chip). The consequence of this is faster actual clocks do matter in Arma more than Intel's IPC efficiency improvements. AMD chips don't work well because they simply get less done per clock cycle as they become optimized for parallel processing (and non-gaming) workloads. These chips can barely be overclocked enough to keep up with the Intel chips in Arma. Source: Link to comment

I said 3000 series because It's not been released yet, nor did I say to get something like a 2700x. If I had said to get a 2000 series chip I would be in the wrong 100%. Also, I think that it should be common knowledge that most games run off of cores 0 and 1, and that having more cores is mostly an extra for most games. But, back to Ryzen 3000 series not being a go yet, there is no problem with waiting around as there isn't anything wrong with his CPU as of now and if the rumors are right, medium 4ghz should be stock boost on most chips. Furthermore, I have made is clear that in other posts *my bad for not making it clear in this post* that I'm a supporter of AMD for value, I've got the cheapest of the cheap (2200g and 1050ti) and it still preforms more than fine for 60fps most of the time. Also note that the post of the article is from even a full six months before the 2000 series chips were out and should be considered a source none the less, but dated. Big Fred
Arma is like the least optimized game ever and a lot of times your framerate is actually very dependent on how the server is performing. If you're getting 40 fps (real fps, not the ingame counter) in towns (Kavala especially) and 50-60 elsewere, that's actually really decent performance. People always like to brag about their numbers. Be it weights lifted in the gym, car horsepowers or their computer performance. I wouldn't be surprised if most of the Arma players with "really high fps" either don't know how to meassure fps properly or just lying through their teeth for some reason. I mean, you can build a fucking rocket propelled supercomputer that'll get over 9000 fps in CS:GO... But the moment you switch to Arma you're suddenly stuck in a 1920's slideshow movie. Save your money and buy a house instead. Or spend it on your girlfriend. You'll get more fps out of her at least. Link to comment

Dull
It has nothing to do with your spec, join some wasteland server and look at your fps, you'll get like 100+ with that hardware. It's just the servers and hardware they're hosted on from what I understood once. I could be wrong. Link to comment

Maybe at cartels, or open fields sure. I get that too. But in cities is where it starts going downhill and by that I don't mean like 30 fps, no I hover around 50-70~ in cities which is honestly ok. I have intel i7 8700k, gtx 1080ti and 32gb ram. Edited January 13, 2019 by Dull Link to comment
