  1. You aren't wrong about it altering gameplay. But the kind of advantage that makes rifle calibers not kill instantly over 800+ meters when hitting the very top or very side & top head is too specific to be worth a buy alone IMO. It also will still kill the shit out of you in the face or sides of the head, and also your neck from behind/front. Statistically speaking the average engagement distance in Asylum is assuredly under 300m. 6.5 and 7.62 the two dominant calibers for weapons in Asylum won't be affected whatsoever by this change at the average engaging distance. I'm willing to wager it wouldn't shift the meta based on the combat norms and 7.62/6.5 meta in Asylum. Another BIG point. We have helmets on Asylum already. The cost 1.5k and stop .45 ACP and 9mm rounds point blank. Vast majority of the player-base doesn't use this though providing this "clear" advantage right? Also via ballistics on Arma 3, technically that helmet (lvl 1) affects 7.62 as well. Because at a certain point the velocity lost from the bullet over normal effective ranges will be low enough that having the lvl 1 helmet would be the difference between life and death. Haven't seen anybody complain about those circumstances though. (I love ballistic science) lvl 2 in terms of protection is realistically not going to change anything. The biggest problem would be when you see those bullshit "glancing hits" where blood comes of of the head but doesn't kill, it gives people something to blame. Example from my own perspective:
  2. True, enough, though I'd argue it'd honestly not make a difference in 95% of situations, therefore being a predominantly cosmetic change. But that one time it does would feel nice I suppose, and shitty for the opposing party.
  3. Depends on what you value. I don't snipe over 600m so for me this change doesn't affect me if it like, blocks a 7.62 round from 1000+ meters. So there's inherent bias there. Though to be honest, I didn't think it would have an impact on 7.62 at all. I put a poll up so people could shoot it down or agree. If I'm uninformed of some massively OP statistic is tied to these helmets (X to doubt) it's also a learning experience for others and myself. EDIT: also not to mention the lower side of the head, neck, and face are not covered by it
  4. I think having a nice variety of cosmetics in Asylum adds to the cool factor. Third person games in general allow admiration of your character. Add White and Olive finish Basic Helmets (Armor lvl 2) to Civilian shop. Add Black and Blue finish Basic helmets to Cop shops, Rank of choice decided by Captains, though I think it would be suited for Constable+. It matches Asylum's cosmetic norm, and adds more cool factor. https://armedassault.fandom.com/wiki/Basic_Helmet "Rated at Level II standards, the Basic Helmet offers little resistance against bullets or explosives larger than Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) fragments. With a base armour value of 6, the Basic Helmet can at most allow the user to survive one point blank hit from a 9 mm-chambered firearm; anything larger will not be blocked." Pictures are in the above article as well. I think it might be able to stop 5.56 in select circumstances at 200m+ ranges, but it's so niche why bother. I know it's low priority, but little surprises like this I think the vast majority of the player base would find a cool little addition in V2. Standard lvl 1 helmets cost 1.5k so I think a flat double/3k would be an appropiate price for the rare circumstance of a good ricochet and looking badass. Of course it could be lower, but I wouldn't advise much higher for such little benefit. (Also don't forget those gas masks on release of Contact DLC!!!)
  5. Gas masks from the Contact DLC. I'm quitting if they don't get added for Civs/undercovers at the least. If officers in general got them that'd be dope too. (They're purely cosmetic in base Arma 3.) Give me sexy gas masks, or give me death.
  6. Where's my "Yes until the prison is actually balanced in any sense of the word." option? I think it's generally bad policy for RP but so is forcing cops to "fight" at the Prison. Fucking place is a joke in terms of balance. Not fun to fight on the cop side of things at all. Especially when the HQ gets camped, after my other officers got downed and kidnapped from Pyrgos, after I got killed from a shark watching the front gate with an SDAR. Terrible objective. I'd seriously consider it currently being considered an aim practice mini-game for rebels at this point. How ANYONE gets caught at the prison is beyond me. It takes pure luck, or perfect strategy, or 18 cops to stop like 7 people armed with common sense to stop one. So, "Yes until the prison is actually balanced in any sense of the word." is my vote. EDIT: I don't do this and I wouldn't encourage people to do it, but I refuse to complain or try and stop people from doing it until it's a policy or the prison isn't hopelessly one-sided.
  7. It's an avenue to be explored. But truthfully V2 could be nothing. It could be community breaking. It could be 200% revitalization. It could bring in streamers for advertisement. It could do a lot if it's done well. Right now suggestions shouldn't be going to far in the future, because too much could change in the next 2 weeks. Focus on current Altis Life and making sure bad things don't slip through the cracks, send bug reports, report useless things, suggest reworks for Big Crime Areas, suggest reworks for talents. Because every opinion and good idea could get implemented and help make V2 that much better so that everyone on Asylum can have their best version of their game back.
  8. Releasing a half asses product just for hype and to try and grab the attention of newcomers won't be worth the development time. Either go all the way or don't. Honestly right now talking about new maps is literally the last thing I would care about if I was a dev. I'd be more concerned with the "doubling down" on V2. Essentially staking the community on this one massive QoL and server health update. My mind would be on that alone before I think about developing a new map.
  9. Sorry to mess with any excitement you may have, but I honestly believe everyone will be quite disappointed with the map. It has virtually no new structures. The vast majority are recycled dayZ standalone assets. It's basically going to be Chenarus Redux. Pretty lame if you ask me. If anyone tries to argue "Oh, well the colors will be different and make for a new stellar envrionment!" Yeah, just put your Saturation to 200 or 150 and be amazed at how much beauty and color Arma 3 already has on Altis, Tanoa, and Malden. My prediction is Livonia will change nothing, and will merely be a fun place to walk around for a few weeks maybe couple months. Altis is what the game was designed around, and modding takes it everywhere else people want to go including Original Chenarus. All the gaps and niches for maps have been filled. Livonia itself is nothing great, the assets and new gear/units is what the expansion is BIG hype for.
  10. Well since you asked for opinions... that ain't it chief. Drastic change like that won't resolve any of the issues discussed.
  11. The actual problem is nobody is suggesting anything productive to fix what they have an issue with that isn't some extreme radical solution. There's no easy answer, all anyone here has done is bring up/validate or invalidate issues. Solutions are hard. I'm a supporter of be the change you want to see. Truthfully though, I think this discussion wouldn't be as bad if SWAT were added back. Gives everyone that fair shot at being successful. You die with that dank SWAT loadout in the first 5 seconds, you can only blame yourself for the wasted utility and fun toys to play with. Only abuse I can recall is people putting their gear in cars and trying to wear it after SWAT ended. (Like come on, that's laughable easy to punish lol). Should be priority tbh. Especially when we see how the devs have decided they wanted the Big Boi Crimes balanced. Was legit an awesome fun moment for all cops. I was excited as a LT with all the same shit getting SWAT cause it just felt cool. It really adds responsibility to the player to do good and value that precious life of yours at a big boi crime, and if what @Samperino was saying is correct, and Rebels are looking for a challenge in the APD, this is a simple, easy way, tied to an educational training requirement (basically a disclaimer agreement or you get removed/lose SWAT ability) to add all these things into the game. So everyone pressure the devs to add SWAT back in with V2 on release. You're all welcome. Case closed. EDIT: Oh, here's what the SWAT changelog looked like back in the day when it was added btw: Introducing police SWAT teams! SWAT will be called to duty when major crimes take place, such as a reserve robbery or a prison break. When the event/crime is over, members of SWAT are returned to normal active duty and equipment. The number of SWAT members will be at most equal to the number of criminals in the location of the crime. SWAT members will respond within 4 minutes. SWAT members cannot move more than 1km from the source of the crime or they will forfeit SWAT status for that event. A SWAT team leader will be able to choose the insertion point location. SWAT team roles are: team leader, assaulter and recon. Recon will only be active in SWAT teams of 5 or more.
  12. I think the in-game playtime requirement needs to be much steeper. My biggest problem with the APD is high ranks not using what equipment they are blessed with, and usually not even being on at all. I get on and play Arma 3 and only on Asylum basically for 4-5 days a week, for at least 3 hours usually more prime time Pacific US. I can't expect all those people to to do the same as me. That's just a level of free time my industry affords and isn't realistic for many, though I do believe I should still see more activity than I do. I refuse to lie when I say that I don't see enough people holding their SGT+ rank on enough in-game in my OPINION. In-game leadership and efficacy has always been the most important ideal to me though as most will know. If they aren't going to come in game, pull armor, get officers moving in some sort of organized strategy, and be the game mechanic the police are supposed to be, I say why bother? Administration on the forums and such is certainly necessary, and important as well. I just wish I saw more people willing to throw orders out. Even if they don't work because mine don't always. I just like the effort. The willingness to step up. To tell someone to watch that gate. That's their one job. You die? Go back to that gate. Let's win one. Comradery etc. TL;DR In-game leadership is important. Wish I saw more of it.
  13. I'd argue it's more interesting than 16+ montages. Who knows for sure though?
  14. Things could've been different.
  15. Seems off-topic to me chief. +1 for wearing cool gloves in game though.
  16. Hell yeah Guest Enter a name here! Tell them!
  17. I like what you did with the transition periods to the cartels for each change in clips. I don't like that you made each transition 30 seconds lol.
  18. One thing I entirely disagree with is your view of Asylum as "rigid." It's pretty fucking lax on here lol. Cops can use street language on Asylum as well, they just can't call civilians dumb apes and to neck themselves. Not really how I'd want the main RP driving force on a Light RP server to act anyways. I respect both servers though for sure. They are both definitely different enough it makes sense for both to exist, we just need a breath of fresh air over here on Asylum. Plus, the market is still there though IMO. Arma 3 has over 24k concurrent players or so a day. Never leaving the top 30 on Steam's charts. You have Olympus and Asylum for European/American RP servers demographically. That's your milsim RP right there. Only other competition is GTA RP and DayZ standalone RP (if you want to call DayZ competition but it has gained some popularity lol). Plus they aren't in a milsim game with good features like a decent medical system and ballistics that make sense for when things get hot & heavy. I'm hopeful to see the community I've stuck with for 6 years, on my favorite multiplayer game, flourish again. But we'll see.
