The thing that my friends and I enjoy about this server is the chaos. It is light RP. You can find RP, and make RP, but there is PLENTY of action, chaos, and combat to get involved in as well.
Admittedly, we purposefully don't get involved in the cartel combat that gangs seem to focus on here, we focus on petty crime, being silly ,and interacting with people in funny ways.
From the time we spent in some rando gang (that imploded due to leader freaking out like 3 days after we joined looking at you Falcon ) we learned that it seems most of the "big" gangs are mostly into cartel fighting.

Basically if RP is what you are strictly looking for, than this will not be the server for you. There are some great moments of RP here and there, but what sets this server apart from the others is that the player-base is probably the most skilled at the game. What I mean by that is Asylum more than likely has the best shooters, tactical gameplay, pilots, and drivers across all the servers. Which in turn created the birth of montage videos over RP videos.

Another thing that this server can give you is comradery and rivalry among the community. Rarely do you find anyone who doesn't have a group of friends who play together and enjoy the same thing in the mod.
  11. cornlips liked a post in a topic by bamf in Asylum RP rule change (re-post from August 2015)
This is a re-post of the rule change regarding RP from August 2015:
After a long discussion, we have decided to change the rules around a few role play (RP) scenarios.
First, it is no longer acceptable to send someone a text message telling them they are going to die and then killing them immediately (or shortly thereafter).  Things like “you will die” followed by someone being killed will be a bannable offence going forward.

Second, when you do initiate hostile role play with someone you must give them sufficient time to react.  For example:

“Hands up or die” is perfectly fine - provided you give the person ample time to respond, give them time to put their hands up, run, or to begin dialogue with you.  If they fail to comply with your demand in a reasonable time, then by all means do whatever you feel you need to do within the RP scenario you are creating.

Also, you must make a reasonable demand of the person.  A time when “hands up or die” is not reasonable, is when someone is driving a car or a helicopter.  There is no way for them to put their hands up in a short amount of time.  If they pull over and exit the vehicle, then they are beginning to comply - do not just shoot them on sight.  If they turn a weapon towards you and you feel your life is in danger, then you may shoot them (but remember guns always pop out when you exit a vehicle thanks to an Arma mechanic).  The better thing to say may be “Pull over (or land), exit the vehicle, and holster your weapon immediately”.  If the person complies, then you can play out the RP scenario from there.
Third, when someone does comply with your demands, you must find another reason to kill them.  They complied, so your “or” statement has no meaning if you go ahead and kill them anyway.  If you say “hands up or die” and the person puts their hands up and you shoot them anyway, you will likely find yourself banned for a period of time.  If you want to further the RP scenario with them a touch and then kill them that is fine, but you must find another reason inside of your RP to end their life.
These changes are not a move to a hard core RP type of system, but instead are ways to make the RP inside of the Asylum servers more meaningful.  We love the fast paced nature of the game play here, but we do want RP to be more engaging for everyone.  You shouldn’t have to fear you will be killed each time you get told “hands up or die” provided you comply with the demands given to you.
We also would prefer RP be initiated through voice commands.  When you hide behind a text message and shoot quickly, your chances of being banned going forward will be higher.  Let’s all try to be better at RP - I think you will find it will make your gameplay here more fun.
    Thanks,
    Bamf

Hey Guys, I have noticed Anders's old Key binding guide is gone, might as well re-post it.

The following is a list of the existing Use Action Keys that could make playing the game much easier for you.
Use Action 1 - Open Player Menu. Use Action 2 - Pickup Nearby items. Use Action 3 - Open Virtual Inventory. Use Action 5 - Lieutenants Secret feature(Extra car lights) Use Action 6 - Siren Type(Officers) Use Action 7 - Siren Mode(Officers)  Use Action 8 - Speed Radar(Officers) Use Action 9 - Use spike strips. Use Action 10 - Earbuds(Volume change between 20% - 100%, does not effect Voices that much). Use Action 11 - Consume Red Gulls.

How to reach the Use Action key bindings menu:
Configure > Controls > SHOW: Custom Controls(Scroll down).

  19. cornlips liked a post in a topic by Legit in Guide to proper hostile initiation
In order to properly initiate hostile RP you must supply people with a demand and then a threat. A threat can be inferred but it is recommended to include one in your message.
    Good
If they refuse the order within a reasonable amount of time (3-5 seconds) or show hostility back then you are free to act on your threat.
    Bad
If they refuse any of these orders and you shoot them that would probably be considered RDM (Hostile intent can be inferred if the outcome of refusing is obvious)
    Things that are considered refusing

    TIPS

    Misconceptions

Only initiate through your phone or voice. Dispatch/911 or Side are NOT acceptable ways to initiate!
Some situations have RP/context, in grey area moments use common sense.

    1.1- Welcome to being a civilian :
    Prologue:
The following are guides to different things. Before you can really partake in any of these activities you should first get your self a vehicle and some starting money.
In order to do this you should head on over to your local apple / peach field located near many of the main cities. Once there collect the fruit and proceed to head back to the city. You will sell the apples / peaches to the market for a profit. Once you obtain this profit , and any profit in the following guides you are to put it in the ATM, Distinguished by a green ATM symbol on your map (Press M for map). Always store your money, and good luck with the more challenging activities ahead!
Ways to make money (In no particular Order) -  Note: Illegal activities may result in cops sending you to jail
1.)  Drugs (illegal) : Running drugs in asylum consist of getting items at there raw base and putting it in your inventory. It is always more efficient to have a backpack - Largest one is the carryall , and a vehicle (The larger the more profitable, and the more you will be noticed by cops and fellow civilians for robbing). Drugs at there raw base are usually unsalable, and must be processed at there respective drug facilities. The drugs in the game from lowest value to highest are Weed (Raw drug is called cannabis Located north of kavala, processor is located south of kavala ; I believe you run around picking small bushes for it), Cocaine (Raw form called unprocessed cocaine Located south of athira, near laka checkpoint, and the processor is located north of athira ; You obtain this by running around in the pit that looks like lettuce), Heroin (Raw form called Opium - located south of sofia and the processor is towards the south west of sofia ; You obtain this by collecting the red colored flowers), and Meth (Requires a combination of three ingrediants , Ephedra - located south of Pyragos , Phosphorus - south of pyragos , Hydrogen Sulfate - located north of pyragos or east of athira, Meth lab is where you process it and is located East of Pyragos  You collect all of these ingredients just by going to the area required and scrolling your mouse wheel). With all of this being said each drug takes up a distinct virtual inventory space so make sure you provide yourself plenty of room and bring a little food and water. Most of these places excluding the phosphorus mine and hydrogen sulfate mine are RED ZONES - Those are places where you can be killed on sight so be careful not only from other civilians but from cops! Once you fill up your backpack and car with your newly processed drugs head over to the drug dealer to sell your drugs and make your money! Drive fast, dont crash, and bring friends boys and you will be swimming in money! Note: If you press T you can put things in your vehicle inventory
2.) Bounty Hunting (Legal) : Bounty hunting is essentially getting a small location of a fellow civilian who has committed atleast 3000$ worth of crimes. You start off by going to a bounty hunter shop and receiving a licence. With this licence + the talents (Located in your phone by pressing Y, at the top of the phone) you can begin your adventure. Start off by getting aquanted with the bounty hunter shop - you will need one of those weapons because they "Taze" - down players. While the player is downed you basically tie them up with a feature called "Restraining". Note, all of asylum rules are still active even though you are a bounty hunter. Let Player X know you have his bounty and you are here for the warrant for his arrest, then taze the player. Once you have captured your target , scroll the mouse wheel and escort the target -  then proceed to the court house with him. Once there you can stop escorting the player, scroll your mouse wheel and send him to jail. Congratulations ! you just made your first sum of money. The pay out is 1-1$ per bounty. My recommendations is that you get really aquanted with the cities and you go after bounties you can handle usually in the cities. Try to get a group of friends because once you get a bounty other players will be after you! Good luck and stay aware! Note: the money you make in this case goes straight to your bank, so the tough part lies in getting to the court house safely.
3.) Excavating (Legal) - This is essentially diving for buried treasure. It requires you to get a diving suit (Clothing option in the diving store), a re breather (Vest option in the diving store), and a wreck excavator (in the market). Once you have these I recommend you get a backpack + 1 water and food. Once you have this get your self a boat at the diving shop , and if you can afford it pick up the talents for excavation speed. I recommend you do all this in kavala because the diving shop is shortly to the south, and the excavation spot is at kavala bay to the west. Once you head out on your boat , you drive over to the square spot with a black ship indicator in it on the map. Once arrived make your boat come to a 0 kmph speed and turn the engine off. Proceed to get out of your boat, and press tab twice. The reason you do this is because your character gets stuck in a fall animation and if you press tab twice it will fix it. Once you are up and swimming, swim on down to the sunken boat! Once there press Y to open your phone, select your virtual inventory and click use on your wreck excavator. You will begin extracting sunken treasure. Once you get a full inventory go back up to your boat and store some in it by pressing T on your boat. I recommend you get inside your boat and drop the following items :Zip ties, lock picks, cocaine. They are not worth the carrying space and should be disposed off. Once you store what you want, rinse and repeat till you are full. Once you are all full ,head back to the shore and proceed to go sell to the jewelry store. Note: Players will see you in your diving suit, a tip is to put it in your backpack so you dont seem like someone they want to attempt to rob.
4.) Scotch (Illegal) - This is essentially making illegal booze. To do this activity you will need a house with a barrel (Purchased at the home improvement store) for most profit. There are quite a few types of alcohol but scotch is the only one worth your time doing. Scotch requires you to pick the fat brown bushes located all around the map  , and water. You take these two items down to the distillery located west of Athira , and you process it into the base form of scotch. I recommend that you get a backpack and a vehicle and fill it up with the water beforehand, and go collect barley near the distillery. Once you are all processed take your scotch to your barrel and store it. Here the alcohol will age till it reaches 25 year scotch. It ages by server restart - in which you log in during and receive credit. Once it reaches 25 year , it does not age any further and sells for the most. You take it down to Wong's food and Liquor court, and sell it there. Note: Just like drugs a lot of these area's are red zones , and easily accessible for cops. This activity doesnt require talents but it requires you to have a little bit of funds and some real estate to get started.

    1.2 - Cop Activities:
    Steps to becoming a cop:
How to become a cop , and the steps to follow :
Once you have gotten some time on the server, Which in there eyes is playing at least 55 minutes for 14 days out a month (If im not mistaken) , you are deemed experienced enough to apply for cop. This requires you to go under the APD section on this forum and follow the templates and make an application. You must be at least 17 (They may have lowered it to 16 as of recent changes) years of age and have a working microphone. Once you have placed an app you wait for acceptance. Once you are deemed accepted you are to go download Teamspeak, then proceed wait in the asylum TS which can be obtained from the homepage of asylum gaming. Once in the TS , look down towards the middle section in the TS you will find a section for "Accepted Police Application". Once you are accepted you will be waiting for a High ranking officer to conduct an interview with you. The best way to go about answering these questions is to go over the asylum guide book - found in the description of the apd rules channel. Provided you pass this interview you will become a "Cadet" for one week. During this time you cannot play civilian. You are required to play at least one hour per day for the next 8 days. Once those days are up you are to go for whats called a "Ride Along". This is a test where you are asked in depth questions on many of the rules a cop must follow, and corresponding grey area's. You conduct this with a Sgt. While in game. Note: You can attend a training and cut a day short out of your cadet week. I recommend you do the week when you have some free time so you can properly understand the rules. Once you pass your ride along you will become a constable - which is basically a cadet with the ability to have Lethals. Lethals are bullets that may kill other players - they also have the ability to alter charges on a player. You will be well rehearsed with all of your abilities at this stage. You as a cop, are the pinnacle of RP, so hold a high standard for your self and those around you. You make money on cop, but you are counted on to protect the civilians more then making a profit. Good luck, and save someones life out there!

    1.3 - Rebel:
    Steps To becoming a Rebel:
1.) Obtain your rebel licence. You may do this by putting in the corresponding talents in your phone by pressing Y. Once there you select what talents you wish. ( I recommend the one to use 7.62 rifles and ghillie suits). You proceed to go to any of the three rebel out posts located 1. North of Athira, 2. South of Donor town , 3. South of Pyragos. Here you will find a dangerous outpost where you can buy things such as lock-picks, Diamond tip Drills (Used for robbing the federal reserve and bank), Illegal weaponry (All illegal weapons may be purchased here and will be listed below), and many things such as clothing , vehicles (ifrits and 50 cals! as well as helicopters), and market type items. Once you have your gear you may proceed to do a few activities that are common for rebels. I will list them below,
Guns available for purchase : Katiba (Marksmen version / carbine - cqb version), mk14, mk18 , Mk1, Rahim, Vermin, Zubyr , Rook, SDAR, PDW, Flare gun, Mk200 (With arms cartel),
Scopes for purcahse : RCO, ACO, ARCO, MRCO, Holosight (various forms - basically different red dot types) ,
    Attachments : FlashLight
    Activities rebels usually do:
I may make a recommendation on strategy one day but for now these are the basic concepts. Note: Cops will respond to these activities and you will be charged with a crime for doing these.
Prison Break: To initiate a prison break you head to the prison island located north west of pyragos. Once out front of the prison, (actual prison building), you head up to the sign located on the right side if your facing the prison, left if you are facing away, and scroll wheel. It will give you an option to initiate a prison break. Note: You must have a weapon to initiate the prison break, and you must stay within roughly 5-10 meters. The max distance you can go is up to the deer stand behind you. Also Note: If you die it will cancel the prison break and you will fail it, getting downed does not fail the prison break. Once You have initiated the prison break you must stay alive for ten minutes, then you will have broken out all the prisoners in jail. Once a prison break is initiated most area's around that zone become red and anyone around is deemed hostile in terms of RP.
Bank Robbery : To initiate a bank robbery you must obtain a Diamond Tip Drill (Possibly a weapon not sure) , and head to the bank of altis. This is located south west of Pyragos. Once you arrive at the bank, proceed to the bottom floor and head to the vault room door. Here you will scroll your mouse wheel and select begin drilling. Once you have began drilling you must stay alive for ten minutes. Note: You may be downed , just not restrained or killed. After ten minutes the door will open with a loot brief case that contains dirty money. Occasionally if there is enough money in the vault it will turn into a gold bar. These weigh 64 inventory space and will make you walk slow. Dirty money doesn't way a lot. Once you obtain the loot the goal is to escape from the prison. Note: You cannot put gold bars into a helicopter or have them on you while you are in it. You also cannot sling a vehicle with gold bars. If you choose to take the gold you must drive out in a vehicle , otherwise take the dirty money and escape in a helicopter if you can. Once you have escaped from the cops you must go to a Rebel outpost. Here you will sell the dirty money for a 1:1 ratio to the market. You also may sell the gold bars for 24-28k depending on taxes.
Federal Reserve: To initiate a federal reserve you must obtain a Diamond Tip Drill. To do the fed it also requires a bunch of talents (located in the talent section by pressing Y and accessing your phone, then clicking talents) . Essentially the goal is to go up to the domes and scroll your mouse wheel and "Hack" into the vault. Once inside there are smaller vaults that contain gold bars. You must also hack into these (Or blow it up using explosives). Once you have obtained the gold bar it is recommended you put it into a vehicle (Preferably a hemmit) and go till you feel necessary. Once you have the desired amount you will realize just as you got the vehicle in its a bitch to leave. You must go fast enough to get over the gate. Just as the bank once you are free from cops you sell the gold bars for 24-28k in the rebel outpost.
Cartels: A cartel consists of a King of the Hill type objective where the red circle represents the "Cap". You must have a gang, and a rebel tiered weapon (illegal), to start capping. It takes a full 20 minutes to complete a cap and receive credit for your gang. Once you cap , the cap may not be recapped for 15 minutes. The goal of capping these cartels is primarily fighting other gangs without reason for initiation. It also provides benefits to the gangs who own the cap. Arms provides cheaper guns and a discount at rebel. Drug contains money from the drugs that other players run. Overall it is the best experience in my opinion asylum has to provide. Good luck, and stay on your toes.

    New Updates #1:
As of recent patches there are some very good money making things for mid to higher experience level players. I will explain cartel tips and how they can make you money. There is also a

    2.1 - Rebels:
    Cartels and Money:
The cartels now spawn crates that accumulate not only money over time ~2k per 5 mins i believe , in addition to the taxes they earn on there respective field. Wongs = alcohol and turtles, drugs = drugs  , arms = rebel items / weapons.
These crates max out at 100k and have an app in your phone that you can check for them. Once you cap the cartel which takes about 20 minutes (Indicated by a percentage bar - goes down to 0 then back up to 100%) you will be able to not only spawn vehicles but you will be able to access the money from a small fridge like object. The money inside the fridge is dirty money similar to the type obtained from the bank. You must sell this at rebel for an exchange rate of 1 for 1$. It does not weight a lot so don't worry!
Keep in mind other gangs will be able to see the amount of money in there crate on there phone as well. They may come to fight you, or even camp the rebel near by waiting for an ambush! Keep on your toes, get a team, and know your call outs! If you need the call outs they are located on a few pages or you can message me for them if you feel that you /and or / your gang is ready for this tier of  asylum. My personal recommendation is that you take the time to learn all the call outs because they are typical spots that players like to go to and you should get comfortable with at least 1-2 that simulate your play style at every cartel. Be geared, Be ready, have fun.

    2.2 - Cops:
    Dispatch -
Some of the newer cops do not know about the dispatch channel yet. The dispatch channel is a helpful tool that lets you respond to the 911 phone calls you get from civilians. Its a great way to interact with those civilians and address the issues they have. It also is a very lucrative money making source in the sense that you get paid per job that you address. Be kind, Be supportive, and help those players out. In the time that you spend helping these civilians in need you will be well compensated as such. If you are going to do this for money make sure you are going to not be AFK and are going to be trying to help the civilians to the best of your ability - because that is what you are getting paid for! If not there are dire consequences for those who choose to bend the rules. Most of the jobs are completed via a new voice system only for the dispatcher and the subject in need of assistance. Its similar to the phone call system we have now.

    New Updates #2:
2.3 - Housing: In asylum you have the ability to buy and sell houses. There are a few different house variations that all come with there perks. I will break them down and explain them - Please note that the houses can hold any combination of barrels or crates just that the maximum and minimum are specific to the price range of the house:
How it Works: You go up to a house, scroll your mouse wheel, select house options (In Green), it will let you know if it is for sale, or if it is already sold. It will also tell you the price, but eventually you will come to know the design of the different price houses. In those house options you will also see things for owning the house such as TURNING into a gang hideout, Selling it to market (Less the initial purchase value), and finally putting an actual price for the other players to buy from you! Don't forget there are houses near cartels and drug area's too , so get the best one for your play style or use the forums to trade / buy it from others!!!
40k House- A small house usually reserved for gang houses. Gang houses are houses used to create a gang. This house is required because it is technically your hideout for your gang that you are creating and gives another spawn option for the rest of the gang members including the creator. No storage for these types of houses
70k House- Usually a one story step up version of the small house. The perks of the step up for this house is that it can hold a storage crate or a barrel for scotch! This house can hold ONE crate or barrel.
150k house - These are the high end type houses. They vary from two stories to long houses. Two story houses are great because not only can they store TWO crates or barrels , but they put one on each floor - which means if you are fighting off cops or rebels you have two floors to fight out of including guns to access. Just remember to lock your house in between grabbing shit and that the cops can search your house if you shoot out of it. The other type of 150k is a Long house. This is a one story house that is exactly what it describes, a long house. The perk with this house is that it can hold up to THREE crates or barrels.
220k - Industrial Shed - this house used to hold 1 crate or barrel - I HAVE HEARD that it has been upgraded to 2 however. The perks of this house is that you have access to a garage that doesn't require cash. You can literally pull vehicles out of your house!!!!

The Bank of Altis: [illegal if in progress]
This is not an illegal area, unless it is being robbed. Police will be alerted when it is being robbed & should respond but will not always. Reasons for doing the Bank of Altis, would be to earn some cash by robbing the bank or a reason to fight the police. A suggested method of doing the bank, would be with a group of friends or a gang. It is ideal to have an Orca on the roof or the back of the island. Have 2-4 people stationed on top of the Bank. 1-2 on the first ATM building & 1 person at light house or 1-2 people spread between industrial & ghost finally have 1-2 people roaming up & down the stairs inside. For an image of The Bank of Altis.
Gas Station Robberies: [illegal if in progress]
This is not an illegal area, unless being robbed. These are often used to make a quick $5,000. Police will be alerted when it is being robbed & should respond but will not always. If you commit this illegal act, you will be charged with Robbery, which has a bounty of $5,000.
Prison Break: [illegal if in progress]
This is not an illegal area, unless an active prison break is going on. Police will be alerted when it is being robbed & should respond but will not always, if you initiate the prison you will receive a charge of prison break and can be sent straight to jail by the police also if you're assisting in the prison break you can be sent straight to jail.
Federal Reserve: [illegal if in progress]
This is not an illegal area, unless an active robbery is going on. Police will be alerted when it is being robbed & should respond but will not always, if you assist in the bank you will receive an automatic charge of bank robbery which has a bounty of $10,000. The benefits of robbing the Federal Reserve is to have the access of stealing federal reserve gold bars. Which are found in the domes, you will need a demo charges, bolt cutters, diamond tip trill, a fast vehicle for snatch and grabs (getting 1 gold bar then leaving). A HEMMT to maximize your profit. Picture of Federal Reserve here. Gold bars can only be sold at Rebel Outposts for $28,000.

Important: I would prefer to leave the comment section clean, and for feedback & other suggestions for this guide. This is bound to change for any given reason, I had this similar forum back in the day. But it was lost do to the hacker, and I never saved it but I will be sure to do that this time. Please be helpful and bare with me while I piece this back together.
