I’m already praying for the poor bastards that would have to APD raid a barracks building apartment full of a rat gang.

on a real note, this housing should be meant to be temporary and have a “rent” instead of a one time purchase.

Both sound good, definitely would be good to have a rental feature on it. I also think it shouldn't be able to age scotch/weed like Rando said. Otherwise, seems like a really fun and interesting way to make use of the barracks. And do what Identity couldn't do

@Patatoto piggybank on the rent idea, could you just apply to old code from the Power bill to function as rent?

that sounds like an easy solution to me too. But for any house we don't want "owned" it has to be done individually with each house. NPC shops is already going to be a nightmare for the devs to sift through im sure. I can't imagine the rest of the map..

Could it be easier in thought to do it the opposite and have the devs make individual shops owned? It would be a bit tedious but if it were limited to cities and expanded from there I think it could be nice. Seeing as it's just relatively crappy city houses that are hard to defend and wouldn't have more than 2 crates of storage, I dont see there being a huge rush of people selling their main properties to have a shop front place.

The issue that is currently being discussed is the hit to server performance. For the sake of explaining it here easily. It can be amounted to essentially doubling the amount of houses that need to be loaded by the server. It's unknown the performance hit it would take to do so. And it would be infuriating for many to buy the house and then have to loose it. And for those at max house cap, they had to sell one of their other houses to make room, and are now out the new house and their old house. IDK if there is a reliable way to test this in a test environment as it's pretty hard to replicate a full server, and all the loads and stresses that come along with it.

More realistically I was thinking to just make it clear that buying one of these houses would be a risk since it could be rugpulled at any time. People should understand that it is an experiment and they can't complain if they lose out IMO. Also, maybe only make it so these houses are available in city limit areas/surrounding areas? Most complaints from players are about the lack of housing in the cities. Don't need to be able to buy stores in turfs/rural areas/out of the way places. Hopefully that would help limit the added stress to performance?

Then they have to go to DMV to drive to HQ to gear up?

Spawning in with their first preset loadout for the duration of the event? Or have them able to gear at any NPC in the area? Not sure exactly how to work around that. Would have to decide if anyone would want the event to work this way in the first place. I think it may not be unreasonable to have to work with base cop spawn gear since Civs cant spawn in the HQ itself, one or two good lethals/downings can clear an easy path in

Giving cops a halfway decent incentive to win, like a payout split between online responding officers if they stop the lockup, may be nice as well

How do we move forward if we need new shops though / move shops in houses that are already built. Just force the homeowner out of it. How do you envision this?

A lot of new NPC's and sell areas are just put into custom placed buildings, like the useless marijuana dispensaries or the African Warlord. If we made this change and it was well received I'm sure this could be worked around. There are always the damaged buildings/shop fronts too

  6. I think it would be interesting to test out for a patch, if there are too many buildings in broken positions then it can be removed surely. I don't see the negatives outweighing the positives, though you would probably want to make buildings with a NPC dealer inside nonpurchaseable
