    Hello!

I want to start by saying thank you. Thank you to those who were able to assist us in reaching our first goal since the ownership change. This first month has taught me a ton. It's because of you guys that this is all possible. I appreciate the countless messages I have received over the last 30 days. The messages with support, suggestions and issues have all helped to shape my first month as Owner.
With the formalities out of the way, let's take a dive into what I hope we can accomplish during January.

The January rewards have been posted. SWAT, vehicle customization, and additional achievement titles!  Due to the holiday season, I have not been able to speak with development as much as I have been able to in the past. I'm sure we were busy, just like many of you. With that, I do not have all the details at my fingertips to disclose about the vehicle customization. But the idea is that you will be able to change the skins on the vehicle, increase the speed some, and potentially increase the storage capacity. Once I have another "sit down" with them to hammer out those details, I will be sure to let you all know.
The SWAT system will be sort of like it was before. But I believe there was always room for improvement within that feature. I am hopeful that we can bring those improvements into today's system. I have a long list of detailed suggestions saved and will reference that when speaking with development when hammering out the fine details. If you too have ideas and suggestions, please make them public! Your time to help shape this is now!
Additional titles for achievements obtained in-game.  There are so many things that we all do on a daily basis, and some that we don't do much of. Looking at what we track, we have a ton of fresh potential for ranks to be displayed. If you want to brag that you have collected a shit ton of various items, sold, or otherwise have done. I believe you should be able to brag about it. What Kavala troll doesn't want to brag for selling a ton of weed?

    Continuing

I have created a new idea to help us as a community cover our monthly needs, while making these rewards available to more people with various household budgets. This will be known as the subscriber system. The rewards are awesome, at a very friendly price. However, I will admit that sub systems are an extremely popular system with just about every company. And that can sometimes be frustrating. So i want to put all the cards on the table to ensure that you are able to understand why it's being done. Currently, our ways to cover our cost fluctuate on a month to month basis. We have donor levels and loot crates. While these are great systems, they are anything but reliable. People buy crates to get an item if they choose, but once they get that item. They no longer need to purchase that key.. I have no way to gauge what the income will be for the month, and to me, that is a terrible way to run any business. The price of this subscription has been set to ensure we cover what we need to, and to give you minimal impact to your wallet. If you have feedback, or suggestions please let me know.  This system is not currently implemented, as there is dev work that is needed. If I am able to have part of this system done, such as everything but the custom titles and the license plates. I will offer the subscription at a reduced price until it is fully completed. When I get a better ETA on this, I will let you guys know.

    And for the final note,

Since I now have access to the donation information of everyone in the community. I realized there are people who have donated over the current top rank (Donor 7). But yet they are not rewarded for their contribution past donor 7. I have decided to add some additional ranks that will cover all the amounts that current active people have obtained. I am not ready to post the details of those additional ranks yet. I still need to fine tune them before going public. I just wanted you to all be aware of what is going on in the world of ownership. Information is power.

    Until next time,

    Mitch

    Edit:
    I forgot to add....
Our January development is working towards a refined war system and the return of infamy. It's my hope that you guys will gain a ton of value from these features.

    Edit 2:
The stats that i speak of above are all not being tracked currently. So anything you have done over the last 4 years will not count due to it not being tracked in this way. Once this goes live, we will start tracking such items.

Gamers, Friends, and most of all supporters,

I cannot thank everyone enough for the support you have given to me and my team over the past year.  It has been a hell of a ride as a player, an admin and most of all an owner. First, none of this would be a success without the team of Administrators, Developers and Contributors.  Hats off to them for their efforts in making my vision possible.  I took a gamble early on - and you helped me deliver.  Thank you guys.
I set out a goal for Asylum when @BaDaBiNg_10-8 @Jesseand I took over last year.  My goals were simple, bring back the players, bring back stability and bring back the fun.  I can safely say all three have been accomplished.  It was not as easy as it sounds, we lost a lot of good people, we had a lot of long nights and we made some mistakes along the way.  Our community is strong and stood by us through a lot and in the end I feel we were able to deliver a better Asylum experience.  In the future, at least until Arma 3 dies, I hope we can keep delivering that fun.
Now currently  #1 in Arma 3 Life Servers and #3 ranked Arma server in the world.  I think this point in time is a perfect time for me walk away from running the day to day operations on Asylum and let someone who can dedicate more time and focus on whats needed ahead.
@Mitch (IFRIT) will be taking over starting tomorrow December 1st.  I will be helping during the transition throughout December, but, all decisions will be his from here on out.

I wish you all the best of luck,
    Clint

    Hello all,
I'd like to start this by thanking the people who steered asylum before me. Between @Clint Beastwood, @Jesse, and @BaDaBiNg_10-8 they truly made this dream possible for all of us. It was not long ago that all of us were worried about the existence of Asylum. Now I believe that we are doing great, with room left to improve.

Since I was approached about this opportunity and accepted their offer. I have been thinking of what I wanted to say. I was only able to come to a simple conclusion. Talk is cheap, don't talk about it, be about it.
In early 2015, I never would have imagined that I would be anywhere close to the spot that I am today. At heart I am still a troll from Kavala. Long live the resistance...!
    Moving on-
With a server that is performing this well. I think we are all ready for some much needed content additions. I have been talking with the development team about plans to bring just that. I am confident that these plans will be something that everyone enjoys in once aspect or another. Some of my initial plans include.
Swat Player Owned Shops Marshal law Civ Drug houses (think drug dealer) Money making seasons (Increased sell price for X product. Legal and illegal) A return of player to player sales of goods and weapons Stats page  Actual reasons to war, war kills, war points etc.   It should be noted that these cannot be done at the snap of a finger and will require some hard work and dedication by our development staff. But I wanted you to be aware of these ideas. It is my hope that you guys can provide feedback and ideas of your own.

Now the tough topic. Donations and server sustainability.
With me being a fresh new owner. I am starting from scratch. At the end of the month, there will be server cost that will need to be covered. In the coming days, I intend to rework some of the rewards for donating to ensure we are able to meet these needs. I also believe that a way to show my appreciation for your continued support, I want to run a sale on keys. More information will come on that when the sale is started. If you do choose to make a donation, it will directly benefit our future here. I will get a goal bar implemented so that everyone can be informed on our status with meeting the needed goal. I believe information is power.

I am truly looking forward to the future and the possibilities it brings. I am grateful for the support and understanding that you guys give me. I'm sure i'll bump my head a time or two. But just know, i am here to ensure you get the gaming experience that you deserve.

As we continue to work behind the scenes to get the new medic systems into place we wanted to give a look into where we stand and some of the things coming.

First off let me officially congratulate @Jake as the first Chief of the Altis Fire Department.
Jake has been and will continue over the next few days to get policies in place and begin to fill out the ranks. Helping him along the way is Assistant Chief @Bread.
The rank structure is quite a bit different compared to the APD where we have 3 captains with 1 of them being an admin chief of police position. At the end of the day the CoP is still another captain when it comes to policies and decisions for the apd. On the other hand, the AFD will have 1 Chief position that is the ultimate decider in all related matters. As Bread is doing, there will be 2-4 Assistant Chief positions that are responsible for helping the Chief to make new policies and enforce AFD guidelines.
The other ranks are as follows:
    Paramedic - (Junior Staff)
    Advanced EMT
    EMT
    EMR - (Cadet)

In addition to new uniforms for each rank you will also be seeing some new vehicles and old ones with new skins moving around Altis with the launch of the AFD. A huge shout out to @Boon whom without, much of this wouldn't be possible. His work has been far above and beyond what we could imagine. He has created almost everything skin wise from the logo, to the teaser image you see below. We've also brought in @GO7NEY to help finish off the new skins and chalk this part of the project complete.

One major game-play change to highlight is the working relationship between the APD and AFD especially around federal events. While the APD holds command authority during such events medics will be on standby to rush into harms way to assist those who are in need. The APD and AFD will have joint communication channels for all federal events as well. Their teamwork will also extend outside of major events around the island, more to come on that later though. While there will always be some friction when new things are introduced both factions have agreed to have policy changes in place to help alleviate as much of that friction as they can.
Finally, how do you join? Like the Apd there will be applications on the forums. We hope to have them opened very soon, right now we plan to open them prior to the new medic system being implemented on the servers. That means there will be a gap of time between acceptance and the new faction rolling out. In the meantime the old un-whitelisted medic is live on the servers but has no impact on any rank for AFD.
There is still some work to be done, as such there is no ETA on the factions release. We are expecting more information around the AFD to be provided by the Chiefs later this week.

This will be going in to effect very shortly on the live servers. Just handling some last minute stuff.

Also, the updated "Donation Goal" method will be going up soonish (next few days). It'll basically be very similar to what community goals offered just minus tiers. So instead of making you guys reach various goals, it will just be one. Then we'll maybe add some other stuff to it, etc. This WILL NOT be the same as Olympus where you donate for features, rather you're donating for a community goal basically. Sometimes we may throw features in, however it'll be unlikely due to how thin we're spread with development resources.

    Asylum Community,
It has come to my attention that most of you do not quite understand where your money goes when you choose to donate to Asylum.
Whether its buying loot crates or donating directly to PayPal you help support
Server costs  Web Applications for Administration (BattleMetrics and other reporting tools) Web Addons for the forums (Ticketing system,  Forum Themes, Addons, etc.) Development costs - additional support outside of our own (free) development Believe it or not, everyone on staff does this as a hobby!  This server is what we choose to do in our spare time, you are not supporting our lifestyles, but simply - your game play.
We have decided to give our player base some insight into when our donation goal is met for the month.  We will have an active status bar for every donation made directly to Asylum.  Once that goal is met, if we exceed that goal we will be able to actively add bonuses for everyone who plays on Asylum.
At the end of the day,  we do not function or play without your support.

Onto immediate game play changes -
Because of player population, and struggling new player base we have balanced a few things around the island to make your money and your time go further in game play.

    Starting immediately
    Gameplay Changes:
We are dropping Cop slots to maximum 15 (to help balance civ to cop ratios) At any time 7 cops can be online. To achieve over 7 cops online, there must be at least 50 civilians online To achieve over 12 cops online, there must be at least 75 civilians online Anything over 75 civilians can have the max cop count on.                 *****  This is a temporary thing while we try to make sure our civilian to cop ratio is in check while we continue to operate the same size police force we had before across 2+ servers now on 1 server. While we understand this may mean sometimes there are no cop slots available, hopefully you pop on civilian to play for a while to help keep our counts high and get new players coming in. Having a full server has been quite beneficial to us the last few days as with a full server we can ensure that action is happening across the map.
Market Changes Left the max discount available alone @ 20% off (any store) Made it so if the store is a non-market (virutal item store) the max discount off is 25% to help other talents be worth it Removed the infamy talent discounts (weren't in use due to no infamy) Added  a **GLOBAL** discount of 15% (civilians only) at any market store (Not Virtual Items though) just gear Brand new players now start with $10,000 instead of $5,000 Lowered prices of common "Starter" Vehicles in a nutshell what does this mean?
Cheaper load outs Cheaper vehicles (Beginner vehicles mainly [Box trucks, offroads, hatchbacks, etc... Large expensive vehicles were already reduced quite a bit on V2 launch])  Your money should hopefully last you longer...
Things to look for very soon
    Return of the medic slot
We are currently testing and adding in the new medic slot , so until that is launched our old medics will be in place.  Enjoy now, soon you will have to be white listed to play it!

Things to expect while playing our new white listed medic slots
New talent tree Great more powerful support class Unique vehicles and new skins Ranking system and dedicated teamspeak channels Work closely with other factions of the community
  15. DonDurka liked a post in a topic by Jesse in Regarding Forum Downtime
    Hey everyone,

I first off want to apologize for the long duration of forum downtime. I have had a busy week unfortunately, and had to work this in to my schedule. While the forums have been down, they've been updated to the latest Invision Community version, which caused a plugin to have issues with ALL forum posts. The cause of forum posts being broken took me like 2 hours to figure out, eventually I narrowed it down to a certain plugin. Then I had to update all ~23,000 users via a script I made to repair some stuff.
The unfortunate thing out of all this was just that any hosted images on the site will have broken links now. That is why your signatures and avatars have been reset. If you wish to have your signature back AND it was more than just a few words or something and was something lengthy or hard to re-create.. (assuming it didn't have an image in and it was just text or something, shoot me a PM, I can get it for you). This however did free up like 40gb of space on the webserver.
Lastly, SSL is now active across all domains except our subdomains for those of you with admin/cop tools. This is due to our SSL license only being paid for the TLD (top-level domain), we do not have subdomain coverage for SSL.
Broken Images for rank icons will be replaced/added back soon. Need to get them. Also, the forums is currently "rebuilding" images in the background making them compatible with SSL if possible. So some images may show up after a while and it may just be that they're not showing due to not being processed by the server yet, as the forum system is also re-indexing everything. So the webserver is under a relatively heavy load currently.
Once again, I apologize for the downtime and the loss of any signatures/avatars. If you notice anything broken on the forums, shoot me a pm.

    Thank you,
    Jesse

I really don’t get it. Everyone kept complaining for them to release v2. So then they finally do and the performance has been fantastic. Now people are complaining that “there’s nothing to do” yes a few things were removed but are most likely being optimized to make them better. There’s still plenty to do.
would you rather play v1 where your in the middle of stuff and server just goes down, or on v2 where you can do anything you want and not have to worry about server crashing
